What Cole Palmer said to Phil Foden just before he joined Chelsea

Manchester City star Phil Foden has shared what Cole Palmer said to him when he was his teammate at club level before joining Chelsea.

The 22-year-old is no doubt on cloud nine right now after the meteoric rise he has enjoyed over the last 12 months.

His sensational season at club level is a large reason as for why his side secured some form of European football ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Now, he is carrying this on for his country, with him last night finding the net for the first time for England in their comprehensive friendly victory.

While manager Gareth Southgate still had some critiques for his performance, Palmer will have confidence that his display keeps him in contention to appear in Germany.

Palmer told Foden he wanted to play more

He has linked up again with Foden as part of international duty, and the current City man has now told theMail Online what the Chelsea player said to him just before he made the move.

He said: “There were times I was in his shoes, where I wasn’t playing and would just come on for the odd few minutes. I knew he believed in himself. He was frustrated, he spoke to me a few times saying he wanted to play more football, and he decided to leave. I’m happy for him that it’s worked.”

Both players are perhaps competing for only one position in the England side this summer, with it feeling like both of them would perform the best in the role behind the striker.

Enzo Maresca named new Chelsea manager

Palmer will no doubt have at least one eye on the situation playing out at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues just announcing Enzo Maresca as their new manager.

The Englishman is one of the few players at the club who has experience working under the Italian, and has reportedly been letting some of his teammates know how much promise he possesses.
