'A huge affection': David Ornstein says Unai Emery absolutely loves £45m PL player Aston Villa want to sign

David Ornstein has suggested that Unai Emery absolutely loves one Premier League player, with Aston Villa one of the sides in the mix to sign him in the summer transfer window.

Villa are going to be fascinating to keep an eye out for this summer, with the club almost making progress in every season since the current owners arrived.

Of course, their most recent Premier League finish saw Villa qualify for the Champions League next season, and thus, it would be little surprise to see them attempt to push the boat out for some signings in this window.

One player Aston Villa are interested in is Conor Gallagher, with the midfielder facing an uncertain future at Chelsea as he approaches the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have reportedly been encouraging sides to make a move for Gallagher as they look to comply with Profit and Sustainability regulations.

And speaking on The Athletic Football Podcast, David Ornstein suggested that Unai Emery would be very happy to welcome the £45 million-rated England international into the ranks in this window.

“It’s clearly plausible that a sale could happen, but he’ll have a big say in this as well,” he said.

“Does he want to heat up talks over a new contract, does he want to go into his final 12 months? Right now, the likes of Aston Villa and maybe a Tottenham, I think it’s something they’re very consciously looking at, it’s a player that Unai Emery, for example, loves. A huge affection for him, so let’s see.”

Villans also considering move for Arsenal star

Gallagher is certainly not the only player Aston Villa are looking to poach from one of their rivals in the Premier League.

Aston Villa are admirers of Emile Smith Rowe, with Arsenal open to selling the attacking midfielder this summer.

Of course, Villa will have to think about what they could spend themselves, but signing both Gallagher and Smith Rowe in the same window would be a real statement, particularly when you consider the impact Emery has had on a number of his players since being appointed.
