Aston Villa set for frustrating transfer window with multiple big names on the chopping block

Aston Villa are set for a frustrating summer which could see multiple players leave in order to raise funds for the transfer window.

The financial side of Villa has long been a worry for many of the Villa Park faithful in 2024.

Despite the success on the pitch which saw them qualify for the Champions League, the club is at risk of breaking the PSR rules.

In February it was revealed that Villa lost nearly £120 million in 2023, the highest deficit in Europe.

Now that the summer transfer window is underway, it has been revealed that Villa are looking at selling two stars in order to raise funds.

Due to their losses last year, it is believed that Villa are close to breaking the PSR rules. It states that the club can only make a £105 million loss over a three-year period.

Both Everton and Nottingham Forest saw points deductions for breaching this during the 2023/24 campaign.

As a result, according to Birmingham Live, Villa are now considering selling Douglas Luiz and Jacob Ramsey.

The former has been subject to plenty of interest over the past two seasons. This saw Villa place a £100 million pricetag on Luiz.

However, Juventus are now chasing the Brazilian, with the Birmingham outfit aiming for a quick exit for their star so they can start signing players.

On top of this, Villa academy graduate Ramsey is also potentially in the firing line. Spurs and Newcastle are both believed to be interested but the midfielder does not want to leave his boyhood club.

Unai Emery does not expect another busy transfer window where loads of players come to Villa Park over the coming months. However, he believes that additional depth is important, especially after their recent injury crisis.

For many Villa fans, this news will not come as a surprise. Since the sale of Jack Grealish, the Birmingham outfit has struggled to sell any players for a big sum of money.

Yet, despite this, the club has continued to spend in the transfer window. Last summer, Villa once again broke their transfer record when they signed Moussa Diaby. It was the third summer in a row that Villa had broken their record.

Now, this could possibly come back to haunt them. Going into the Champions League, it is clear that Villa’s first team still need plenty of improvements. It seems the only way to make this happen is to sell some of their best.

If their potential incomings do not perform, it could see the Villains slip back down the Premier League table.

Emery and Monchi must be smart this summer and it could be their toughest task yet in the Second City as they look to balance the squad.
