Tottenham fans are all in agreement after Ryan Sessegnon and Japhet Tanganga are released

Tottenham Hotspur announced the departures of four players on Wednesday after their contracts came to an end.

Ryan Sessegnon, Japhet Tanganga, Eric Dier and Ivan Perisic have all headed out the door up their contracts expiring.

Both Dier and Perisic spent the second half of the season out on loan, with the latter securing a switch back to Hajduk Split.

Dier completed a surprise move to Bayern Munich in January and after an impressive start to life in Germany, the centre-back could see his stay extended.

Tanganga’s campaign started miserably as he failed to make a single appearance for Augsburg. His loan move in the Bundesliga was cut short but he’s since caught the eye in the Championship with Millwall.

Sessegnon continues to struggle with persistent hamstring injuries and while he remained at Tottenham last season, he managed just one appearance for the first-team.

Spurs supporters were certainly expecting these departures given that all four players looked unlikely to renew their contracts.

But there is some regret amongst Tottenham fans on social media over how things have worked out for both Sessegnon and Tanganga.

Tottenham fans react to Sessegnon and Tanganga departures

Both players showed plenty of promise during the early stages of their Spurs careers.

Tanganga emerged as a first-team player under former boss Jose Mourinho after an impressive debut against Liverpool back in January 2020.

The 25-year-old has struggled with his fitness since and failed to establish himself as a regular starter at Spurs.

Sessegnon also arrived with plenty of excitement surrounding him as Tottenham snapped up the youngster for £25 million back in the summer of 2019.

But the former Fulham man has been ravaged by hamstring injuries after he was widely regarded as one of the brightest English prospects.

Given both players have displayed plenty of promise in a Tottenham shirt at times, supporters are disappointed it hasn’t worked out for them at Spurs.

One fan wrote: “Shame it didn’t work for Sess and Tanganga.”

Another said: “Shame for Japh and Ryan. Clearly talent there, Japh was misused and Ryan just massively injury hit. Wish them nothing but the best moving forward.”

A supporter also commented on Sessegnon’s potential, claiming he should’ve been ‘special’.

“Such a shame about Sess, huge potential when he left Fulham. Japhet too, had something but just couldn’t grab enough opportunities in a Spurs shirt,” another fan added.

What’s next for the former Tottenham stars?

Dier may well have played himself into a more permanent stay at Bayern after helping the German giants reach the Champions League semi-final.

Perisic is also expected to remain at Hajduk Split after completing a sensational return to the Croatian club where he started his long career.

The future is less clear for both Tanganga and Sessegnon. The latter has received interest from Galatasaray in recent months.

Tanganga’s impressive spell in the Championship has led to Premier League interest while he also currently has an offer on the table from Millwall.
