Report: Evangelos Marinakis has plans to replicate success of Premier League side at Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has identified a current Premier League side to emulate in the summer transfer window.

Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side will be boosted by further Premier League revenue this summer having secured their spot in the top flight for another season.

The City Ground saw Forest narrowly escape the drop following a four-point deduction due to their financial breaches.

And this summer’s transfer window is going to require smart business being done by Evangelos Marinakis and co if they are to avoid any further penalties going into the new campaign.

Forest will need to offload some players this month ahead of the June 30 PSR deadline; otherwise they could well find themselves in trouble again with the Premier League.

But it seems as if Marinakis is now looking to emulate the recruitment work done by one current Premier League side to bring smarter transfer business to the City Ground.

What club’s transfer policy Evangelos Marinakis is looking to copy

Since landing back in the Premier League, there has been a lot of transfer business done by Forest for the better and for the worse.

Players like Brennan Johnson have been moved on for a considerable sum of money and then there was the summer of 2022 where Forest brought in 21 players.

A considerable sum of money has been spent by the Greek owner in recent transfer windows and there could well be a new transfer policy landing at Forest ahead of this summer.

According to The Athletic, Forest are now looking at Brighton & Hove Albion as a shining example of a club that operate well in the transfer windows.

It is claimed Marinakis will have the final say on any transfer business done at the City Ground over the summer, but he is keen to see their policy of buying players change.

Brighton’s philosophy of buying players who will improve in quality and value through gaining Premier League experience.

Forest already have examples of this transfer policy

Three players have been listed in the report as examples of the type of players Forest are looking to add to their squad over the summer.

And from that list of players, Mangala can already be seen as a player who Forest are turning a healthy profit on having now seen as Mangala’s move to Lyon set to become permanent.

The Belgian midfielder has only played 18 months worth of football for Forest and, already, Marinakis will see a profit of around £20m come into the club this summer.

And there could be more players to follow suit with the likes of Murillo and Morgan Gibbs-White both rated extremely high by Forest after seriously impressive displays in the Premier League by the pair.
