James Maddison has made change to his Instagram bio after being dropped from England's Euro 2024 squad

Following the news that he has been omitted from England’s Euro 2024 squad, Tottenham Hotspur’s James Maddison appears to have reacted on Instagram.

Last night it was revealed by reliable sources that Maddison had been axed from Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man-squad, having initially been called up in his 33.

Maddison played 30 minutes against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday, but appears to have failed to change Southgate’s mind, who must have already had a pretty clear idea.

Despite his excellent start to the season at Tottenham, Maddison’s form under Ange Postecoglou did worsen after he returned from injury in the new year.

Of course, the midfielder would still be deserving of a spot in the final 26 regardless of that form, but is simply a victim of England’s depth of options.

Eberechi Eze, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham, is perhaps one of the names who will be chosen ahead of Maddison.

Maddison was selected in Southgate’s final squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but failed to play a single minute at the tournament.

But either way, this decision, reported by The Athletic, will have come as a shock.

James Maddison removes ‘England’ from his Instagram bio after Gareth Southgate snub

Understandably frustrated, it now appears that Maddison has somewhat expressed his disappointment on social media.

Noticed by fans on X, Maddison’s Instagram bio now just reads ‘Tottenham Hotspur #10’, whereas it previously contained England too.

It will no doubt be difficult for the midfielder to now watch the tournament from home, believing that he could have had an impact.

However, once the dust settles, Tottenham fans will hope that this disappointment fuels a strong reaction from Maddison next season.

The midfielder can definitely be the catalyst for Spurs to win silverware under Postecoglou, and will perhaps prove it once again with better players around him.

Eze is linked with a move to the club as stated, a player who really impressed Southgate on Monday.

And perhaps Tottenham could even explore a move for another Crystal Palace player involved in this England set-up too, defender Marc Guehi.

It’s all pretty hypothetical for now, but Tottenham do have money to spend, and Postecoglou’s ambition to match.
