Aston Villa will be tempted by ex-player John Terry dubbed 'incredible' amid asking price reveal

Aston Villa could be tempted by a move for a former player after his asking price has been revealed.

Manager Unai Emery will be keen to bolster his options ahead of a season which will see Aston Villa compete in the Champions League alongside their domestic campaign.

What should be a summer of excitement at prospective transfers has been marred slightly by the fact the Villa Park club have to walk a financial tightrope in order to comply with both Premier League and UEFA spending rules.

This could see a couple of big departures, with Douglas Luiz, Jacob Ramsey and Jhon Duran the most likely to be sold to balance the books.

Some of this money will be reinvested in the squad, though, and Villa could move for a player they will remember fondly from his previous time at the club.

Tammy Abraham asking price revealed by Roma

Ollie Watkins is currently the undisputed starting striker at Villa, with 20-year-old Duran playing the back-up role.

However, with links regarding Duran moving to Chelsea not going away, Emery is likely to be after a new striker this summer.

That could open the door for a move for Roma’s Tammy Abraham, who spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Villa.

That season the striker scored 26 Championship goals as he helped fire Villa to play-off glory and secure a return to the Premier League.

Manager Dean Smith was desperate to secure a return to the club the following season but it did not come to fruition.

Now, Roma Press have reported that the Italian club could be willing to let Abraham leave the club this summer for a fee around £21.2 million.

A return to Villa could be desirable for all parties.

After scoring 17 goals in his first season at Roma, Abraham has been unable to hit the same heights since and missed almost the entirety of the 2023/24 season with a knee injury.

Villa need a striker to take some of the burden off of Watkins and could make a move even if Duran does not leave.

A fee of just over £21 million would also not represent a significant outgoing for a player who could make a big impact once up to speed.

During his time on Smith’s coaching staff, John Terry was full of praise for Abraham during his spell on loan, saying: “I know him very well having played with him at Chelsea. He’s been incredible here.

“He was the Academy player that when coming over to train with the first team, me and Gary Cahill used to think, ‘oh no, here we go!'”

He went on to say: “Tammy always posed a big threat and I knew he’d go on and do well. His passion is infectious. We all want results and performances, but supporters want you to work your socks off for the football club.”

With Roma happy to move the striker on, an Aston Villa reunion could be a perfect move for both player and club.
