‘On the list’: Journalist says Southampton now want to sign ‘scary’ Man City player this summer

Southampton reportedly have their eyes on signing a Manchester City player this summer.

After being relegated from the Premier League last season, the Saints won promotion back to the top flight by beating Leeds United in last month’s Championship Play-Off final.

Now that the next summer transfer window is close to opening, a journalist has shared some behind-the-scenes details on one particular City player the south coast club have on their radar as they prepare for the next Premier League season.

Southampton eyeing Liam Delap transfer move

In a recent post on his X account, journalist Jack Rosser had this to say on the matter.

He said: “Southampton want to bring in a new striker/forward this summer.

“Ben Brereton Diaz and Liam Delap on the list, still some hope Che Adams may stay too.

“There has been strong interest in Callum O’Hare but deal looks unlikely at this stage.”

Since joining City’s youth ranks back in the 2019 summer transfer window, the striker has now completed three loan spells away from the Manchester club at sides such as Stoke City, Preston North End and most recently, Hull City.

Delap showed his talent in his loan spell with Hull

During his time with the Tigers last season, the 21-year-old scored eight goals and delivered two assists in 31 Championship games.

Back in December, former Hull manager Liam Rosenior had this to say about the striker, who occasionally played on the right-hand side of the pitch at times last season.

He said: I think Liam’s consistency is improving as well. He’s getting better and better and better in his time with us and he’s going to be a huge threat for us for the rest of the season.

“He can play anywhere on the pitch, he’s that good. He’s naturally a number nine. He’s a number nine with a lot of technical and physical capabilities and speed.

“For him to play out on the side, sometimes it’s just going to improve his game. I think he’s what, 20 years old? It’s scary, his potential and ability and hopefully, I get the chance to work with him a lot longer than the next few months.”

With all of that on board, it’s easy to see why Southampton have Delap on their transfer list for this upcoming summer window.

Moving forward, City will have a decision to make regarding what the striker’s next move is depending on what offers come their way for him.
