Ange Postecoglou reacts as ‘outstanding’ Tottenham Hotspur man complete sudden exit

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou is preparing for the 2024-25 season but has now suffered a major loss.

Ange Postecoglou guided Tottenham Hotspur to a fifth-place finish in his debut Premier League campaign, securing Europa League qualification.

The Tottenham boss is incredibly ambitious though and he certainly won’t be happy to just settle for fifth.

Postecoglou wants to bring real success to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and that means a big summer is on the horizon.

Tottenham fans mostly want to hear about new signings but there will be plenty of departures too.

Postecoglou has already outlined his plans to move some players on, but few were expecting coaching changes…

Chris Davies leaves Tottenham Hotspur

When Postecoglou arrived at Tottenham last summer, he came without any of his Celtic coaches.

The likes of John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan stayed in Scotland, leaving Postecoglou to find other members of staff.

The man Postecoglou chose as his assistant was, ironically, a former Celtic man as Chris Davies came in.

Davies was Brendan Rodgers’ assistant at Celtic and Leicester City and decided to join up with Postecoglou in North London.

Swansea City wanted to appoint Davies as their manager just months after his Tottenham arrival but he decided to stay put.

That seemingly wasn’t the move for Davies but he has now been tempted away from Tottenham in a rather sudden departure.

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge stated on Thursday afternoon that Birmingham City were in talks to land Davies as their new boss.

The Blues have been seeking a new boss after relegation from the Championship with Tony Mowbray having to step aside and interim boss Gary Rowett moving on.

Birmingham have now confirmed the appointment of Davies, handing him a four-year contract in a bold move.

Davies has never been a manager before, so giving him a four-year deal right off the bat is quite the show of confidence.

The move leaves Postecoglou to look for a replacement alongside him in the dugout.

This is a real blow for Postecoglou and the Tottenham boss has now shared his reaction to Davies leaving the club.

Speaking on Tottenham’s official website, Postecoglou admitted that he feels Davies is a truly ‘outstanding’ person and praised his ‘fantastic’ work at the club.

Postecoglou added that the interest from Birmingham is ‘no surprise’ before thanking Davies for all of his efforts at Tottenham.

“Chris is an outstanding individual, he’s done some fantastic work with us in the last season and as I’ve said before, that will attract attention, so it’s no surprise to me that a club of Birmingham City’s stature have shown an interest in him. I’d like to thank Chris for all his hard work, and we wish him all the best,” said Postecoglou.

Tottenham will surely have had contingency plans and potential targets in mind just in case Davies did leave this summer.

It’s an issue that Postecoglou could have done without though and it leaves Tottenham needing to find a coach alongside putting transfer plans in place.
