Tottenham Hotspur make first move to sign £35m Premier League playmaker

Tottenham Hotspur continue to be linked with potential new signings as Ange Postecoglou looks to build on an encouraging first season at the club.

Ange Postecoglou came into Tottenham Hotspur needing to provide an injection of life after the Antonio Conte era.

Tottenham started the season well but endured an up-and-down middle part of the season before ending the season with five defeats in seven.

That leaves Tottenham with some room for improvement next season but some encouragement due to Postecoglou’s style of play.

A fifth-place finish and Europa League is a decent start to the Postecoglou era but Spurs must now bring new talent to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham need plenty of signings this summer and midfield is one area for improvement heading into next season.

Tottenham Hotspur want Fulham’s Andreas Pereira

Giovani Lo Celso will surely leave Tottenham this summer having failed to really live up to expectations in five years at the club.

A creative midfielder to ease the burden on James Maddison would be ideal and Tottenham are now looking at a surprise target.

Globo Esporte in Brazil report that Tottenham are interested in snapping up Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira.

It’s stated that Pereira is now ‘unlikely’ to stay at Fulham this summer amid mounting Premier League interest.

Tottenham are understood to have expressed an interest in signing Pereira but face competition from Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

Pereira wants to wait until after Copa America to decide his future as he will be in action for Brazil this summer.

There is one problem for Tottenham though; Pereira wants to play in the Champions League next season.

Tottenham can’t offer that route and would have to convince him into joining with the idea of reaching the Champions League down the line.

Fulham allegedly want around £35million for Pereira, more than three times the fee they paid to Manchester United for him in 2022.

Double Brazilian raid on Fulham

Pereira racked up 84 key passes in the 2023-24 Premier League season; only four players ranked above him in that regard.

Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Pascal Gross and Bruno Fernandes were the only players to record more key passes than Pereira.

That goes to show the kind of creativity Pereira provides having really developed his game since joining Fulham two years ago.

Tottenham may well fancy Pereira to add a spark in midfield and a move to sign him could come as part of a double move.

Reports earlier this week suggested that Tottenham want to sign Rodrigo Muniz – another Brazilian star shining for Fulham.

Fulham won’t want to lose both players but Tottenham may now view them as the ideal signings to take Postecoglou’s side forward.

The pair have linked up well this season and could bring that connection to Tottenham – if Spurs can come up with big offers.
