‘Dream’ striker has £65m release clause as Tottenham Hotspur eye summer deal

Tottenham Hotspur will surely be in the market for a new striker this summer but one target looks to be incredibly expensive.

Harry Kane left Tottenham Hotspur last summer, completing a big move to Bayern Munich and leaving a big hole in the Spurs attack.

Richarlison and Son Heung-min have shared the striking duties since Kane’s exit with Tottenham yet to bring in a real centre forward.

Tottenham came up short in the push for Champions League qualification and Ange Postecoglou will be desperate for better next season.

The signing of a prolific goalscorer may just take Tottenham to the next level and we have already seen a number of potential signings being linked.

Tottenham must be ready to spend on a new forward but one target is now going to cost a huge fee.

Dominic Solanke release clause explained

Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke is one of the main names linked to Tottenham in recent months.

Reports back in January suggested that Tottenham were looking into a late move to sign Solanke before the winter transfer deadline.

Unsurprisingly, that move didn’t come off as Bournemouth were never going to sell their top scorer just before the window shut.

The rumours returned in May as reports suggested that Tottenham fancy signing Solanke this summer.

The Athletic now share a very interesting claim, suggesting that Solanke has a £65million release clause in his contract.

The clause is only thought to be available to certain clubs though, most probably Premier League in European competition.

Tottenham don’t have Champions League football but will be in the Europa League next season.

It’s unclear whether Tottenham would be able to activate that clause but news of a fixed fee triggering a Bournemouth exit will certain raise some eyebrows inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Solanke’s Bournemouth form is hard to ignore

Tottenham’s interest in signing Solanke certainly makes sense.

The former Liverpool striker was once derided having struggled to make an impact after a January 2019 move from Anfield to Bournemouth.

Solanke hit just 3 Premier League goals in his first 42 Premier League appearances for the Cherries and was regularly tabbed as a flop.

Bournemouth’s 2020 relegation seemed to spark Solanke into life, smashing 44 goals in 86 Championship games.

Hailed as a ‘dream’ striker by former Cherries boss Gary O’Neil, Solanke was red-hot this past season, hitting 19 goals in 38 appearances for Bournemouth.

Still overlooked for an England call-up, Solanke has taken his game to another level and appears to have really found his feet as a top Premier League striker.

That is certainly what Tottenham want right now, but whether Spurs are willing to pay £65million – or whether that figure even applies to Tottenham – remains to be seen.
