Aston Villa join the race to sign ‘complete’ target, Manchester United also want him

Aston Villa have joined the race to sign one in-demand target, Manchester United are one of the clubs that want him.

Unai Emery will be eager to navigate his way through another successful summer transfer window at Aston Villa.

Several top talents have already been linked with a move to Villa Park, despite Villa’s PSR concerns being clear.

While Monchi and Emery will tread carefully around the financial boundaries, the Villans are said to now be in the race to sign an in-demand target also wanted by Manchester United this summer.

Aston Villa join the race to sign OGC Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo

Now that Aston Villa will not sign Clement Lenglet, the Midlands club are reportedly on the prowl for a new centre-back.

As reported by L’Equipe, Villa have joined the race to sign OGC Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo this summer.

Villa are not alone in their pursuit of the 24-year-old, who is said to be admired by Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Manchester United ahead of the summer window.

It’s also noted that Tottenham could revisit their interest in the player, who L’Equipe claim could leave for a price as low as €25m (£21m).

Nice are open to a departure despite the centre-back being so integral, with interest in Todibo now piling up.

Todibo would be a statement signing for Unai Emery

While Manchester United’s financial stance may be greater than Villa’s in the race to sign Todibo, the Villans can offer the Frenchman Champions League football.

Last summer, Emery saw just how fundamental hiring a top-class centre-back was at Villa Park, as Pau Torres was captured from Villarreal.

The Spaniard fit in seamlessly to the manager’s system and has transformed how the squad play, being a crucial part of Villa’s road to the Champions League.

Now, a transfer of such importance could be replicated, if links to Todibo are to be believed.

Once lauded as being the ‘complete package’ in central defence by talent scout Jacek Kulig, the 24-year-old could add further quality to Villa’s squad in preparation for the 2024/25 campaign.

With Tyrone Mings coming off the back of an ACL tear, Lenglet expected to depart and Diego Carlos’ future uncertain due to PSR, it’s likely that Monchi and Emery will target a new centre-back this summer.

Todibo would be the ideal capture if the Villans can keep up in the race among those interested in securing the defender’s signature.
