Tottenham Hotspur make decision on Tanguy Ndombele contract

Tottenham Hotspur already have two summer signings in through the door and fans can expect plenty of business to be done in the coming weeks and months.

Two deals done even before June started; Tottenham Hotspur are clearly looking to improve under Ange Postecoglou.

Fans will remember a rather infamous transfer window in the summer of 2018 as Tottenham were the only Premier League team not to sign a single player.

That certainly won’t be happening this summer with Tottenham aiming to build on a fifth-place finish in Postecolgou’s first season at the club.

The Spurs boss will guide Tottenham into the Europa League and wants a squad to cope with that additional workload.

Lucas Bergvall is arriving this summer having agreed to join from Djurgarden whilst Timo Werner has signed another loan deal from RB Leipzig.

That is a promising start for Tottenham but more business needs to be done – including potential outgoings.

Tottenham Hotspur make Tanguy Ndombele decision

Signings make all the headlines but Tottenham do also need to flog a few players this summer.

Postecoglou has already admitted that he wants to move some players out of Tottenham, stating ‘we need change’ due to a disappointing end to the season.

Some first-team players may well go but much of the focus will be on returning loanees.

Joe Rodon is attracting interest from Southampton after his loan spell at Leeds United but one player is seemingly being released rather than sold.

Foot Mercato report that Tottenham have now come to an agreement to terminate the contract of midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

It’s stated that the news should be confirmed by Tottenham in the coming days and Ndomblee will have plenty of interest upon becoming a free agent.

Ndombele has one year left on his Tottenham contract and it now sounds like Spurs will let him leave the club rather than negotiate another loan.

The 27-year-old has spent the last two-and-a-half years out on loan away from Spurs, first re-joining Lyon in January 2022 before heading to Napoli just seven months later.

Ndombele spent this past season with Galatasaray but the Turkish side seemingly don’t fancy a permanent deal.

Ndombele has won the league in each of his last two seasons, becoming a champion with both Napoli and Galatasaray without really hitting the heights he is capable of producing.

Now ready to leave Tottenham once and for all, it remains to be seen whether Ndombele – described as ‘very talented’ by Postecoglou – can really save his career elsewhere.

Tottenham’s 2019 window meets its end

It is easy to forget just how excited Tottenham fans were back in 2019.

Mauricio Pochettino needed new signings after losing the Champions League final and, after 18 months without a signing, four new faces arrived.

An exciting young winger in Jack Clarke, a goalscoring midfielder in Giovani Lo Celso, a promising left wing back in Ryan Sessegnon and the heir apparent to Mousa Dembele in Ndombele.

Unfortunately, none of those deals worked out for Spurs.

Clarke is shining for Sunderland but was barely seen in a Tottenham shirt whilst Sessegnon is being released this summer after an injury-ravaged time in North London.

Lo Celso hasn’t lived up to expectations and could join Aston Villa to reunite with his former Paris Saint-Germain and Villarreal boss Unai Emery.

Add in Ndombele – still Tottenham’s record signing at £63million – leaving for nothing and the 2019 window now looks immensely disappointing five years on.

This just goes to show that there is no exact science to the transfer window; four encouraging additions ended up falling flat and Tottenham will certainly hope for a better hit rate this summer.
