‘I don’t understand…’: Father of Wolves flop Fabio Silva shares honest verdict of the striker’s loan at Rangers

The father of Wolves striker Fabio Silva has shared his honest assessment of his son’s loan spell at Rangers over 2023/24.

As the 2023/24 campaign closed, Gary O’Neil will face the heavy task of filtering through Wolves’ loan players.

The manager will have a significant job on his hands to assess the 15 players that were on loan during last season however, one player’s future won’t take much time to deliberate.

Fabio Silva has shared his stance on being a Wolves player, with his future looking to be far from Molineux, particularly after a mediocre loan spell at Rangers.

Fabio Silva’s father shares his thoughts on the striker’s loan spell at Rangers

In an interview with MailSport, Silva’s father, Jorge Silva, shared his honest verdict on his son’s time at Rangers after starting the season at Wolves.

Jorge Silva concluded that he found it difficult to understand why Rangers supporters were so against the Wolves loanee during his spell at Ibrox.

“He loved the club and the fans. He just doesn’t understand that after one game, everyone changed and went against the boy. It was a good time for him at Rangers. All the staff there helped him.

“But when I was at the cup final recently, people found out I was his father and said to me, ‘Tell him not to dive.’ I know that’s just emotion and football, but I don’t understand it.

“I don’t understand why old players from Rangers, and even some of the fans, criticised him after the Celtic game. It was a huge match but Rangers did nothing before Fabio won the penalty.”

Silva was heavily criticised for his diving antics during his time at Rangers, seeing supporters and pundits fall out of love with the 21-year-old.

The £35.6m signing will return to Molineux to follow protocol after his loan spell however, will certainly leave the club this summer after failing to progress in Scotland.

Molineux or Ibrox return not on the cards for Silva

During his time in the Scottish Premiership, Silva netted four goals in 18 appearances and left on a sour note after supporters were disappointed by the players actions on the pitch.

It’s impossible that the 21-year-old will have a future at Wolves, and impossible that Wolves will receive a price anywhere near the £35.6m fee they paid for him in 2020.

That being said, there is one club showing interest, with La Liga side Sevilla said to be tempted to reignite their interest in the Portuguese starlet.

The Silva deal was a nightmare for Wolves and one that the player didn’t seem to enjoy either based on his recent comments, with a return to Molineux or Ibrox certainly out of the picture.
