Report: Wolves ‘still interested’ in ‘incredible’ striker target with asking price now named by club

Wolves could take a step closer to fulfilling Gary O’Neil’s transfer wish this summer, as a former target has been re-linked with the club.

Gary O’Neil will be eager to sign a new striker at Molineux this summer, as the manager guided his side through the 2023/24 campaign with a small squad.

Wolves finished 14th thanks to the work of O’Neil, with next season having the potential to be even better for the Midlands club.

First, the boss will hope to have a busy summer in the transfer window, with one former target now linked to Wolves again.

Wolves are interested in signing former transfer target Boulaye Dia

On deadline day last summer, Wolves tried to sign Boulaye Dia from Salernitana however, the Italian club rejected a move.

Things have gotten complicated for the striker in Italy since then, as a falling out with the club in March resulted in his game time being cut.

With it now certain that Dia will leave Salernitana this summer, Italian outlet Tutto Salernitana reports that Wolves have resurfaced an interest in the player.

The report claims that the Midlands club are ‘still interested’ in the player, who could be sold for as low as €12m (£10m) in the upcoming window.

Dia would be the perfect signing for what Gary O’Neil needs

It’s not every window that a former target, proven to score goals, is available for as low as £10m.

Wolves must pounce on the chance to finally capture Dia’s signature, as O’Neil has made his stance on signing a striker clear.

The ‘incredible’ goal scorer has been starved of game time in recent months due to his falling out with Salernitana however, he still netted four goals in 12 Serie A starts in 2023/24, via Sofascore.

There is a reason that Wolves surfaced an interest in Dia last summer, as the 27-year-old contributed to 22 goals in 33 Serie A appearances in 2022/23, scoring 16 and assisting six for his teammates.

With Matheus Cunha best playing just behind the number nine, and Hwang Hee-chan utilised in various positions, Dia could be the reliable scorer that O’Neil craved last season at Molineux.

While Wolves’ interest has been reported once again, Tutto Salernitana also stated that they may not be the only English club eyeing the forward, who could be in demand this summer.
