Singer's secret behind 70lb weight loss after 'eating chicken wings for 18 months'

Lyrical sensation Ed Sheeran has divulged how he managed to optimize his weight loss after piling on 70lbs.

The singer made changes to his diet and fitness regime after discovering the scales were increasing after consuming chicken wings on a regular basis over four years. Ed Sheeran says he gained four stone (56 pounds) after going on a ‘chicken wing diet’ believing it was healthier than eating carbohydrates. But the celebrity soon realized it wasn’t the better option and decided to make a commitment to work on himself.

While speaking on the Session 24 podcast with Jake Shane, the 33-year-old admitted: “I was in my fat phase, in America, I used to think no carb meant no bread, no fries.

“I was like ‘I can eat chicken wings’ and I just ate chicken wings for a year and a half. And I put on four stone (56 pounds).”

The music star has found re-evaluating his diet and introducing exercise helped to keep the weight off.

But admitted he struggles.

Ed added: “I’m prone to putting on a lot of weight, and what I found is just going to the gym regularly and trying to portion size.

“I don’t have an off switch. If I have one thing to eat, the off switch is there.

“Like if I have that, then I won’t be like I need to order another and another. If everything is in front of me, then I will eat it”.

The Shape of You hitmaker has previously shed a lot of weight before his 2020 transformation.

Back in 2017, he dropped more than three stone (42 pounds) after removing alcohol and carbs from his diet.

He divulged to a radio station his then-girlfriend (who became his wife, Sherry), inspired him to do a 10-minute workout to keep trim.

Ed would also use this with HIT workouts, or interval training, and he managed to push the scale down to 11.5 stone.

At another point in the podcast, Shane tells the star he has started Ozempic – the popular Hollywood weight loss drug – and asks if it ‘looks’ like he’s started the ‘miracle’ jab. Ed comes across awkwardly as he doesn’t know what to say, before the host admits it was just a joke to get his reaction.

In 2019, he previously spoke about the cruel comments from trolls online, and how it’d affect the way he saw himself. They would call him ‘chunky’ and ‘fat’ and it made him feel he had to change the way he looked.

Sheeran admits his heaviest weight stood at 16 stone, and the trolling became so much, he quit Twitter in 2017.
