Chelsea learn Unai Emery stance over Jhon Duran exit at Aston Villa, PSR won’t be a factor

Unai Emery has made his stance on Jhon Duran’s future clear ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

It’s poised to be an interesting summer at Villa Park, as Unai Emery and Monchi get to work at strengthening the squad in the transfer window.

While several targets have already been linked to the club, there will be some concern over Aston Villa’s PSR situation.

Villa are believed to be in a sell-to-buy scenario this summer, with a player needing to be offloaded to keep the books in order.

A number of players have been rumoured to be eyeing a move away, with one figure’s future having a different narrative to others.

Unai Emery transfer stance on Jhon Duran made clear amid Chelsea interest

One player whose future has been spoken of in doubt is Jhon Duran, who received interest from Chelsea in January.

Fast forward to this summer and the Colombian is still attracting interest from the Blues, with Bologna also said to be eyeing the forward.

While Duran’s stance has reportedly been made clear, Emery’s viewpoint on the transfer scenario has also been documented.

Speaking exclusively to Aston Villa News, HITC Journalist Graeme Bailey shared his insight into the Spaniard’s approach with Duran.

“Jhon Duran is one who Emery is not going to stop from going.

“From what I’m hearing, that’s separate to the profit and sustainability [issue], I think they were open to Duran leaving anyway.”

Bailey’s insight suggests that the Villa boss had it in mind to part ways with Duran regardless of Villa’s PSR scenario, which is an interesting development ahead of the transfer window.

Duran may not be the player Emery wants at Aston Villa

If Duran’s lack of game time is one pointer, then Emery’s desire to offload the forward is another indication that the manager doesn’t deem the striker as the right fit for Villa.

There is no denying the quality of the 20-year-old, who had a scoring frequency of only 101 minutes in the Premier League last season, via Sofascore, however, his off-pitch antics may be less desirable for Emery.

The Colombia international has been far from committed to Villa in recent months, all stemming from him being linked to Chelsea in January.

The striker deleted all of his post’s associated with Villa at the time and has since publicly liked Chelsea-related posts on Twitter to add fuel to the fire.

It’s a difficult situation for club and player, with Duran clearly wanting more game time, and Emery not being able to hand him significant minutes due to the competition in the side.

Now that the boss’ stance on Duran is clear, it would be somewhat unsurprising to see him offloaded this summer, whether it eases PSR or not.
