'It was frightening': Aaron Ramsdale says 'the most insane thing' happened in Arsenal’s defeat to Bayern

Aaron Ramsdale has now been recalling a moment from Arsenal’s defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League at the end of last season.

Right now, Ramsdale is gearing up to be England’s number two at Euro 2024, a role he’s likely learned to loath at Arsenal.

In the past, before David Raya came to north London, Ramsdale looked like he was mounting a strong claim to Jordan Pickford’s number one spot for country.

But given all they’ve been through together, Southgate was never going to drop Pickford once Ramsdale lost his Arsenal spot.

Of course, Ramsdale being in this position has naturally led to a lot of exit rumours this summer.

Newcastle United are said to have registered their interest in Ramsdale – even if they may have been put off by his asking price.

Arsenal are demanding £50m to sell Ramsdale this summer, a fee they seem unlikely to recoup.

But transfer talk aside, Ramsdale has recalled a moment from Arsenal’s recent Champions League campaign when speaking with That’s Football.

Aaron Ramsdale admits he was amazed by Manuel Neuer when he faced Arsenal

As part of the interview mentioned, Ramsdale was asked to choose his dream team.

And when choosing Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer in net, Ramsdale recalled an ‘insane’ piece of skill the sweeper-keeper pulled off in his Champions League tie with Arsenal.

Ramsdale said: “I’ll go Neuer. The audacity he shows on the football pitch.

“I seen possibly the most insane thing I have ever seen on a football pitch was in the Champions League quarter-final in the first leg, he scooped the ball up with his right foot, Kai Havertz was pressing him, and he volleyed it over his head with his left foot in the first 15 minutes.”

Ramsdale continued: “The funny thing is when we were practising our press the day before I was trying to be Neuer and I said to Timber he’ll probably do something like a chip and a side volley and I said I’m not going to do it ever and the next day he did it. It was frightening.”

Of course, Ramsdale was probably well-advised to not try such a trick in an Arsenal shirt – given he did experience some understandably nervous moments over the season.

A keeper with so much talent, Ramsdale will definitely land on his feet, and Arsenal fans will hope the club finds the right move.
