Ange Postecoglou expected to promote academy duo to Tottenham first team for Europa League minutes

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is now expected to promote the academy duo to the first team for next season.

The summer transfer window is now just days away from opening but it seems there will be work done in house on some of Tottenham‘s prospects from the academy too.

Ange Postecoglou has numerous exciting youngsters at his disposal following an impressive 2023/24 campaign for the club’s youth system.

However, opportunities for the Australian to provide minutes for these youngsters has been few and far between with Spurs playing one game more than the bare minimum last season.

But that is going to change next season with European football returning to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And it seems as if that is going to allow the Australian the opportunity to experiment a lot more with his squad over the coming months.

Tottenham to hand Europa League opportunities to academy players

Wayne Burnett’s U21s have enjoyed a sensational season in the Premier League 2 after getting their hands on the trophy.

Players like Jamie Donley and Will Lankshear were the two standout performers from last season with the former being handed a few opportunities under Postecoglou.

However, there has not really been the game time handed to the academy prospects that has allowed them to shine in the first team.

But it now seems as if that could be set to change with the new format Europa League coming for the 2024/25 season.

According to Football.London, Postecoglou has really liked what he has seen from Mikey Moore and Tyrese Hall since arriving at the club.

The pair have impressed the Australian so much that they could even earn themselves some minutes in the first team with Europa League fixtures to come.

Hall was one of the players who shone in the recent trip to Melbourne, Australia for the post-season friendly against Newcastle United.

Meanwhile, Moore set the international stage alight for England in the U17s Euros where even the Spanish media were left waxing lyrical about him.

Jamie Donley may now be sent out on loan from Tottenham

One of the most exciting players from the club’s academy currently is Donley who has received some minutes from Postecoglou.

However, it seems as if he could now be set for a loan move away from the club this summer to seek some regular first team minutes.

As per the same report, it is suggested Donley’s path to the regular first team minutes may be closer than 16-year-old Moore’s which could land him a move away for the season.

Although many Spurs fans may want to see Donley handed opportunities in the first team, a move away could really boost his development with regular minutes.

And although there may be more football to be played next season, there still may not be enough opportunities for the youngster to continue his exciting progression.
