Jose Mourinho ready to open talks to bring ‘phenomenal’ Tottenham player to Fenerbahce this summer

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is now looking to reunite with one of his former players from his days in north London.

The Portuguese manager has recently been appointed as the manager of Turkish giants Fenerbahce having left AS Roma earlier in the year.

A few of years on from being sacked from his role at Tottenham, it seems the 61-year-old is now keen to bring one player over from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to Istanbul.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side have made an early start before the transfer window has even opened with the loan signing of Timo Werner.

But there will be a big focus from the Australian and Daniel Levy in clearing the decks at Hotspur Way this summer in selling the players who do not meet Postecoglou’s standards.

And it seems there may already be a potential landing spot for one of Tottenham’s players who has failed to impress Postecoglou over the last year since his appointment.

Tottenham outcast could be set for Jose Mourinho reunion

A busy summer window could well be in the works for Spurs with a 15-man list of players the club would be willing to sell having been drawn up already.

The list, however, is divided into sections with some players only being available for sale if a tempting offer was to land.

But there are players who Tottenham are keen to offload over the coming months like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Dane has been surplus to requirement despite Postecoglou’s struggles to nail down his three-man midfield over the course of the campaign.

According to Turkish outlet Sabah, Mourinho’s Fenerbahce are now ready to open official talks with Spurs over the midfielder.

Hojbjerg has failed to earn the trust of Postecoglou this season and is going into the summer transfer window with just one year remaining on his deal.

However, the 28-year-old is currently away on international duty with Denmark for the Euros which could mean an exit may come later on in the window.

What Jose Mourinho previously said about Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

During Mourinho’s time in north London, Hojbjerg was able to rack up 46 appearances where he returned a goal and four assists.

The Dane was crucial to Mourinho’s midfield having started all 32 of Mourinho’s Premier League games at the helm.

And it was apparent the Portuguese manager is a big fan of the midfielder who is out of contract next summer.

“Pierre is, first of all, very intelligent. He reads the game very well. He’s going to be a coach one day, for sure,” Mourinho told the media back in 2020.

“Physically he’s very, very strong and technically he’s much better than people think. Because sometimes people think the guy that is good technically is the guy that does the backheel. The guy that is good technically is the guy that does something wonderful. But these are not my words. These are words from coaches of 30, 40 years ago. Simplicity is genius.

“And the guy is so simple in everything he does with the ball. And I think he’s a phenomenal player. Congratulations, Mr. [Daniel] Levy.”
