'He has the quality': Diogo Jota blown away by £102m midfielder Liverpool are reportedly pushing to sign this summer

Liverpool star Diogo Jota has heaped praise on one Reds target ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Arne Slot era has begun at Anfield, and the new Liverpool boss is expected to make a few signings to help him achieve his goals in his first season.

A new midfielder is expected to be on Liverpool’s wish list this summer, and Jota appears to be a big fan of one of his club’s transfer targets.

Diogo Jota delivers verdict on Liverpool target Joao Neves

Liverpool need to sign a new midfielder this summer, preferably a number six.

The Reds deployed Alexis Mac Allister in a deeper role on many occasions in the 2023/24 season. He played as a defensive midfielder more times than he did in his natural number-eight role.

The Argentine, who Jota called the best player in the Premier League, did well in that position, but Liverpool need to play him further forward to get the best out of him.

That’s why they need to bring in a top-quality defensive midfielder this summer, and reports have claimed that Liverpool are pushing to sign Benfica star Joao Neves

The teenager is one of the finest talents in world football. He has everything you would want from a defensive midfielder and it’s only a matter of time before he moves to a bigger club.

Jota seems to think his future is bright too.

In a video on Goal, when the Liverpool forward was asked to name one young player everyone should watch out for, he named Neves.

“Joao Neves. He has the quality and mindset to go really far,” Jota said.

Neves will cost a fortune but there’s a positive update

Neves is wanted by a number of top clubs in the world.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign him, while Manchester United are also said to be admirers of the 19-year-old midfielder.

Benfica, however, are desperate to keep hold of Neves, who is protected by a €120 million release clause, which equates to about £102 million (ESPN).

The Portuguese giants have even offered a new contract to Neves to keep hold of him.

However, reports have now claimed that Neves has rejected that proposal, which is positive news for all the clubs interested in signing him, including Liverpool.
