Report: Man United now eyeing 'highly rated' gem who's never made a first-team appearance for Wolves

Manchester United are showing interest in yet another player from Wolves – and this time it’s someone who has yet to make a first-team appearance.

Wolves are expected to announce the signing of Rodrigo Gomes today, after an agreement was reached with Braga a few days ago.

Gomes becomes the first new signing of the summer, with Tommy Doyle turning his loan move from Manchester City permanent.

So far, there has been plenty of speculation about who could be on the way out this summer.

It is expected that Wolves will sell one or two big names to help fund their business, with Pedro Neto and Rayan Ait-Nouri the more likely departures.

Now, it is being suggested that one of the youngsters could be leaving with Manchester United showing interest…

TEAMtalk reported on Tuesday that Manchester United are now showing interest in Louie Moulden.

Moulden signed for Wolves in 2021 from Manchester City, and has had several loan spells with various EFL clubs.

Moulden has never made an appearance for the Wolves first-team, although he has previously been a part of the matchday squad in the 2021/22 season.

TEAMtalk say that Moulden has now emerged as a target for United, and that the 22-year-old’s availability on a free transfer and his homegrown status are part of the attraction.

They have been following his progress and are now said to be considering a move.

Last season, Moulden was on loan at National League side Rochdale, before then moving to League One club Northampton Town in January. He made 40 appearances across the two clubs. He was branded ‘highly rated’ by Jimmy McNulty when he joined Rochdale.

Another Wolves player United like

This is something of a surprise link, with Moulden having obviously not played for Wolves’ first-team before.

Moulden’s contract is expiring and so it is just a question of where he will go next. There has been no indication that he is going to extend his deal at Molineux.

The link follows reports that Manchester United were keen to sign Joao Gomes earlier this year. They were then linked with Max Kilman, and most recently Matheus Cunha.

There was also a report at one point claiming that Sir Jim Ratcliffe was eyeing Gary O’Neil as someone to form part of a coaching staff at Old Trafford.

Seemingly, the Red Devils have liked what they have seen from Wolves in recent times.

Hopefully it will work out for Moulden if he decides to move there.
