'If I go back': £25m Arsenal star says he'd love to rejoin former club - but on one condition

One Arsenal player has suggested that he would love to one day return to his former club, but only if he felt physically capable of making an impact.

Watching who Arsenal sell this summer is going to be particularly intriguing, as it may provide a hint regarding just how much Edu and Mikel Arteta are looking to spend on signings as they prepare to try and win the Premier League title at the third time of asking next season.

Some ruthless decisions may well be made, with some popular figures potentially moved on.

One of those who appears to have probably played his final game for the Gunners is Kieran Tierney, with the left-back spending last year on loan with Real Sociedad.

Kieran Tierney open to returning to Celtic, on one condition

Tierney has struggled with injuries during his time at Arsenal, and Arteta now has a number of options in his left-back position, with the Scotland international not as comfortable in the inverted role.

Tierney, of course, arrived at Arsenal for £25 million after an amazing spell with his boyhood club, Celtic. And Bhoys fans will dream of the defender returning at some stage.

Celtic have been linked with Tierney in the years since his departure. And speaking to The Athletic, Tierney suggested that he would be very open to returning to Parkhead.

“I don’t regret it. I still miss it but I knew life would never be the same,” he said.

“I was living my dream. Being a footballer is the dream but playing for Celtic was the ultimate. I left that to go and challenge myself in the Premier League and come up against the best to see how I’d cope.

“If I go back, I want to be feeling how I did there before. I’ll be a different player to what I was, as I’ve been away for years, but I wouldn’t want to go back if I wasn’t feeling 100 per cent in my body.

“I know the intensity and the demand to win so, if I go back, it will be when I’m still feeling good.”

Arsenal now a very different side to the one left-back joined

Arsenal are in a very different position to where they were when Tierney arrived, with the Gunners edging closer and closer to mid-table mediocrity in the Premier League.

But the club are a different animal now, and the 26-year-old was simply unable to keep himself fit enough to keep developing with them.

Much may depend on what offers arrive for him this summer, as you would imagine that Arsenal would like to recoup as much of the fee as possible.

But if Celtic match any bid on the table, surely Tierney will find it incredibly difficult to turn down the chance to rejoin the Bhoys.
