Les Ferdinand gives honest opinion on how many more years Tottenham could get out of Heung-min Son

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker and coach Les Ferdinand has now shared his thoughts on Heung-min Son’s future in north London.

A busy summer transfer awaits Tottenham with Ange Postecoglou‘s side having already made an early start with the addition of Timo Werner on a season-long loan.

Postecoglou has already admitted that he is looking to add even more forwards to his squad over the coming months.

Having lost Harry Kane last summer, Spurs have required goals to come from across their front line with Heung-min Son taking on the lion’s share of that responsibility.

But the 31-year-old is now going into the summer with just one year remaining on his contract and is soon to turn 32 over the next month.

With Postecoglou’s appointment bringing a long-term project to north London, The Spurs News have sat down with Les Ferdinand to discuss the South Korean’s future.

Les Ferdinand remains optimistic about what’s to come from Heung-min Son

Despite losing his strike partner last summer, Son has gone on provide Tottenham with his second-best season in the Premier League.

The South Korean returned 17 goals and 10 assists in the league alone, but there were some signs of him flagging towards the backend of the campaign.

With Richarlison struggling through various injuries over the term, Son was deployed as the number nine for large periods of the season.

Speaking to The Spurs News, Ferdinand has insisted that getting the best out of Son will require Spurs returning him to the left side for the upcoming campaign.

“You wouldn’t call Son a number nine and I think when when Richarlison’s been out we’ve struggled to look like we can penetrate through the middle,” the former Spurs man said.

“I think what’s in football today, in terms of the way players are looked after, the way players are managed game by game, players can keep going a lot longer if they feel they want to. But they’ve got to have that desire and want. And I feel like Son’s one of those players that he’s not ready to call it a day, and he’s probably peeking from 28 to 32.

“He’s probably in that in that zone at the moment where he’s got a season or two inside inside him where he can really go for it still.”

“I think what happens – certainly for me as I was in the Premier League until I was 39 – what you do you find a way to adapt to what you need to do. And yeah, it changes, where I was when I was a little bit younger, I was running in behind all the time… You just modify your game to adapt to the situation and making sure you’re still benefitting the team.”

New Tottenham contract in the works for Heung-min Son

The Spurs captain has been linked with interest from Fenerbahce already this summer, but Son has now admitted he will not be leaving Tottenham over the coming months.

He may be going into the summer with just one year remaining on his current deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but a new deal is in the works for Son at Spurs.

He may return to action for the new season as a 32-year-old, but Son is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Although Son shone last season, there were periods where he slumped and with Europa League football bringing more games next season, rotating the South Korean will be crucial to Tottenham’s success.
