'Agreement very close': Fabrizio Romano says Aston Villa nearing breakthrough to sign 'dangerous' player

Aston Villa have a busy summer on the transfer front as they look to bolster their ranks and also ensure they’re on the right side of profit and sustainability rules.

The Villans have been quick with regards to the second point, as they are currently in talks with two clubs over selling two of their players.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the state of play involving Villa, Douglas Luiz, Jhon Duran, Juventus and Chelsea.

The Serie A side is currently in talks with the Villans over Luiz in a deal which could see Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior go the other way.

Villa are also in discussions with Chelsea over Duran, who hasn’t had much game time under Unai Emery of late.

Romano took to X to say: “Aston Villa have new round of talks already scheduled with both Juventus and Chelsea.

“Negotiations are underway with #CFC for Jhon Durán, still working on the fee.

“Agreement very close with Juventus for Douglas Luiz with McKennie, Iling Jr and €20m as part of the deal.”

Aston Villa looking to sell players ahead of PSR deadline

It’s certainly a shame to see Villa cash in on the “outstanding” Luiz, who has been a mainstay of their squad and has really gone from strength to strength at B6.

However, with profit and sustainability rules in place, the Villans will ease the pressure on their finances ahead of the 30 June deadline.

In addition, Villa will also get two top talents in McKennie and Iling-Junior, which will go a long way towards bolstering their squad for next season.

McKennie has been deemed a “conqueror of balls with “excellent skills in the construction of the game and with his head he is always dangerous on inactive balls.”

Meanwhile, Iling-Junior has been deemed ‘one of the most promising young footballers of his generation‘ and an ‘assist machine‘.

As for Duran, he doesn’t really seem to be in Emery’s plans for next season, so cashing in on him makes sense.
