'There's a chance...': Danny Rohl opens up on Chansiri and the 'dream' they share at Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has revealed the ‘dream’ that he and owner Dejphon Chansiri share.

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri recently earned praise for tying manager Danny Rohl down to a new three-year contract.

Rohl arrived at Sheffield Wednesday in October 2023 and eventually guided the Owls to a 20th place finish in the Championship.

The German’s previous contract was set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 campaign. But Chansiri immediately opened talks with Rohl after the end of the 2023/24 campaign, tying Rohl down to a three-year deal.

Sheffield Wednesday now appear to be making moves in the transfer market ahead of the window officially opening on June 14th.

The Owls have free agent duo Ben Hamer and Max Lowe in their sights and have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Yan Valery from Angers.

In a recent interview, Rohl has discussed Chansiri, and the vision that they share for the club.

Danny Rohl reveals the ‘dream’ he and Dejphon Chansiri share at Sheffield Wednesday

Rohl recently held an interview with The Training Ground Guru, in which he was quizzed on Chansiri.

Rohl was asked whether or not Chansiri is fully on board with the longer-term project at Sheffield Wednesday, of which there hasn’t really been one for several years.

Rohl replied: “I hope so. I think it was the reason why he got me the offer to extend my contract.

“I think we both dream for the Premier League, and if we make good steps forward then there’s a chance of course.”

Can Sheffield Wednesday earn Premier League promotion under Danny Rohl

After seeing how well Sheffield Wednesday performed under Rohl last season, it’s easy to get carried away when making predictions for next season.

The form table for the last 25 games of the campaign had Sheffield Wednesday placed in 8th, so there’s reason to believe that the Owls can safely avoid relegation next season.

And if Rohl can sign the players he wants this summer then there’s nothing to suggest why Sheffield Wednesday couldn’t even challenge for the top six next time round.

But expectations must be managed at Hillsborough. There’s a whole load of work to do in the summer transfer window and the last Championship campaign showed us that there’s a real level of quality in the second tier.

Any team can truly beat any other team. For Chansiri and Rohl, a steady mid-table finish would mark a significant improvement on last season.

Then in years to come, after several transfer windows where they’ve built a strong first-team squad, promotion to the Premier League, and then standing a chance of staying there, may become very realistic.
