‘Magnificent’ gem & Georgian Mbappe: Five Euro 2024 stars that Wolves should scout - opinion

With Euro 2024 kicking off this evening, Wolves could look to scout a few players during the tournament for their transfer activity.

Wolves are set to have a busy summer transfer window having confirmed two permanent deals.

Tommy Doyle’s loan move from Manchester City was made permanent at the start of May while Gary O’Neil clinched the signing of highly-rated Braga winger Rodrigo Gomes.

Although it’s a great start to the window for a side who normally leave their business till late, there is still plenty of work for O’Neil to do.

The Wanderers boss has several positions that need plugging, including at striker, in the wing-back roles and at centre-back.

Euro 2024 could play a massive role in how the transfer window unfolds at Molineux in the weeks ahead, so with that said, here’s a look at a few stars Wolves could scout at the tournament.

Armando Broja – Albania

Armando Broja is a long-term O’Neil striker target and the 22-year-old is set to play a starring role at Euro 2024 with Albania.

Lauded as ‘clinical’ by Alan Shearer, the talented marksman will almost certainly leave Chelsea this summer after his loan at Craven Cottage, as the Blues look to ease their PSR concerns.

Chelsea are looking for a fee in the region of £30 million to sell the striker, although it has been reported that all of the interested clubs – including Southampton and Everton – can’t afford him at present and must sell a player for negotiations to proceed.

Broja isn’t the most prolific of strikers, scoring just eight goals in 66 appearances however, O’Neil has shown he can get the best out of his forwards, perhaps emulating that success with the Chelsea star.

Wolves will be keeping a keen eye on how Broja plays at Euro 2024 as a successful tournament could bump up his asking price.

Che Adams – Scotland

Similarly to Broja, Che Adams is a striker who has been on Wolves’ radar for a long time.

The 27-year-old is out of contract at Southampton this summer and several clubs have queued up to land him on a free transfer, with the Old Gold being one of them.

After firing 17 goals in all competitions last term, he’s preparing to take Euro 2024 by storm with Scotland and it has been suggested that he won’t decide on his future till after the tournament.

It was reported on Thursday that Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab have joined the race for his signature, which has complicated matters even more for Wolves.

Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how Adams performs in Germany and how his future gets resolved in the coming weeks and months.

Johan Bakayoko – Belgium

A promising young player to watch this summer is Johan Bakayoko, who has impressed over the past season at PSV Eindhoven.

The 21-year-old has become a key player for the Eredivisie club, adding two league titles to his trophy cabinet and two Dutch Super Cups.

A left-footed right-winger, Bakayoko likes to cut in onto his stronger foot and wreak havoc against opposing defenders, scoring 12 goals and nine assists last season.

Lauded as “magnificent” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, the fleet-footed Belgian looks set to dazzle at Euro 2024 and if Pedro Neto departs for big money this summer, he would be an ideal replacement.

Leopold Querfeld – Austria

Leopold Querfeld is a talented young centre-back currently plying his trade in the Austrian Bundesliga for Rapid Wien.

At just 20-years-old, Querfeld has established himself as a regular starter for his current club, featuring 28 times in the league last term and scoring three.

A call-up to the Euros has now handed the youngster a chance to showcase his ability in the absence of David Alaba, with plenty of clubs poised to keep an eye on his development.

Wolves aren’t currently desperate to sign a central defender however, if Max Kilman departs amid interest from Manchester United, the talented Austrian should certainly be on Wolves’ radar.

Georges Mikautadze – Georgia

Georges Mikautadze is a talented centre-forward who was picked up by Dutch giants at Ajax in August 2023.

The 23-year-old was parted from the French side of FC Metz after 23 goals and eight assists in 37 Ligue 2 appearances.

However, after joining Ajax he rarely featured, playing just nine times in the first half of the season.

That was when he was loaned back to Metz in the January transfer window, with Mikautadze recapturing his previous form, dragging his side to Ligue 1 safety with 13 goals and four assists in 20 appearances.

Such an impact drew comparisons to Kylian Mbappe from his manager as the talented forward prepares for Euro 2024 with Georgia.

Wolves are on the lookout for a new striker, so Mikautadze is one to watch at the tournament, especially after showing previous interest.
