10 TV icons who died this year as we fear the small screen will never be the same

Television lost some phenomenal actors and actresses in 2024, from Marla Adams, a Young and The Restless staple, to Chance Perdomo, who was set to reappear in season two of Amazon’s Gen V.

With bodies of work that will be around forever, there’s no better way to remember your favorite TV actor than by rewatching some of their greatest hits.

Though their deaths are obviously heart-wrenching, the outpouring of love and tributes illustrates just how inspirational actors in the TV industry can be.

The following TV actors might have died in 2024, but the souls they touched will continue to remember them for years to come. They may be gone, but they will never be forgotten.

Kenneth Mitchell battled ALS for five years

Amyotrophic Lateral Scelorisis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that eventually makes a patient unable to breathe without assistance from a ventilator.

Kenneth Mitchell had battled the disease for five years before his death was announced on February 24, sparking a mass amount of tributes from the legions of fans he had gathered over the years.

Over his career, the Canadian actor bagged over 50 TV and movie roles on projects like Captain Marvel, Star Trek: Discovery, Jericho, and Ghost Whisperer.

TV actress Jennifer Leak died a legend

There are some actors who paved the way for the actors you know and love today, and Jennifer Leak is one of those people. Fans were naturally devastated when Jennifer’s death was announced in March.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of Jennifer Leak’s passing,” Jennifer Leak’s ex-husband, actor Tim Matheson, penned. “She wasn’t just my screen sister in “Yours, Mine and Ours,” but also my beloved first wife.”

Over her long and illustrious career, Jennifer Leak racked up acting credits on projects like Yours, Mine and Ours, Eye of the Cat, Lost Flight, and The Photographer.

Chance Perdomo only recently appeared in a hit superhero show

Chance Perdomo tragically passed away in March after he was involved in a fatal motorbike accident in Upstate New York. He was just 27 years old.

“We can’t quite wrap our heads around this,” his colleagues at Amazon said at the time.

Despite being so young, Chance Pedromo had accumulated numerous impressive acting accolades before his death.

In just a few years, he had appeared on projects like Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the After film series, and season 1 of The Boys spinoff, Gen V.

Adan Canto fought cancer in private

After a successful acting career in Mexico, Adan Canto moved to the US where he worked on a number of shows like The Cleaning Lady and Designated Survivor. He even appeared in X-Men: Days of Future Past as Sunspot, a superhero with heat-related abilities.

Sadly, Canto died in January after a private battle with appendiceal cancer, a rare form that only affects one or two people per 1 million being diagnosed each year.

“I don’t have the words just yet…. but my dear sweet friend Adan just gained his wings. Forever, forever in my heart,” wrote Hollywood legend Halle Berry, who appeared in several projects with Adan.

Elizbeth MacRae quit acting for a higher calling

Despite appearing in countless notable projects and TV shows including Gomer Pyle, USMC, Route 66, The Andy Griffith Show, and General Hospital, Elizbeth MacRae’s “most significant achievement” was career post-acting.

After leaving the world of show business, the actress found herself called towards a greater purpose in the form of a drug and alcohol counselor with the Freedom Institute in New York.

In late May, Elizabeth MacRae’s death was announced by her friends and family, sparking an outpouring of love from her colleagues and fans.

Cole Brings Plenty appeared in the Yellowstone spin-off

Native American actor Cole Brings Plenty, who was most known for starring in 1923, went missing for days on March 31. Just a few days later, Cole’s death was revealed.

“I am deeply saddened to confirm that my son, Cole, has been found and is no longer with us,” Yellowstone’s Moses Brings Plenty, who is also Cole’s uncle, shared on Instagram.

“We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone for the prayers and positive thoughts you sent for Cole. We would also like to thank everyone who came to walk beside us as we searched for my son and provided the resources we needed to expand our search areas.”

Marla Adams starred in over 200 episodes of a single show

Marla Adams’ role on The Young And The Restless was so significant that she appeared in over 200 episodes and recieved numerous nominations for Daytime Emmys.

Legendary actress Adams passed away on March 25, with tributes pouring in from across the globe.

The official Twitter account for The Young And The Restless wrote: “We send our deepest sympathies to Marla Adams’ family. We’re so grateful and in awe of Marla’s incredible performance as Dina Abbott Mergeron as both Marla and Dina made an unforgettable mark on Y&R.”

Terry Carter lived to the old age of 95

Terry Carter died at the age of 95 while surrounded by his loved ones in his New York City home. He was survived by his wife of 15 years, Etaferhu Zenebe.

Having broken into the acting world through stage performances and musicals, Terry moved on to become a news anchor for WBZ-TV in Boston. He stayed for three years before jumping back into TV and film.

In Hollywood, Terry starred in a number of high-profile projects including Foxy Brown and films with Van Johnson and Ray Milland. On the TV side of entertainment, he starred in The Phil Silvers Show and Battlestar Galactica.

Adrian Schiller ‘died far too soon’

In April 2024, the TV industry lost Adrian Schiller after a major ischaemic stroke, his agent of 30 years confirmed.

Though Adrian was featured in films like A Cure for Wellness and The Crucible, he had regular roles in standout shows like The Last Kingdom, Victoria, and Death in Paradise.

“He has died far too soon, and we, his family and close friends are devastated by the loss,” his agent wrote on social media. “His death was sudden and unexpected, and no further details around its cause are yet available.

Ricky Gervais had nothing but nice things to say about Ewen MacIntosh

Ewen MacIntosh’s iconic performance in the UK Office not only impressed audiences but also contributed to the success of the much more popular US version. Ewen featured in the British comedy with Martin Freeman, Mackenzie Crook, Lucy Davis, and Ralph Ineson.

In February, the comedian’s family said he passed away in a care home at the age of 50, surrounded by his love and support.

Taking to Twitter following the news, Ricky Gervais wrote: “Extremely sad news. The very funny and very lovely Ewen Macintosh, known to many as ‘Big Keith’ from The Office, has passed away. An absolute original. RIP”
