Hit-and-run driver sought in fatal pedestrian crash in Vineland

Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a 60-year-old man who was pushing a shopping cart in Cumberland County early Friday.

Bruce E. Byron, of Vineland, was pushing the cart in the northbound lane of North Delsea Drive near West Wheat Road around 12:30 a.m. when he was struck, according to Vineland police.

Police were called to a report of an injured pedestrian on the shoulder of the roadway and Byron was found dead at the scene.

The car — described as a gray Nissan Altima, model year ranging from 2013-2015 — was traveling north on Delsea Drive when it hit Byron, police said. The car then continued traveling northbound, authorities said.

The vehicle should have front passenger-side damage, including a missing bumper, fog-light housing and passenger-side mirror, police said.
