'Remarkable': Kieran Trippier admits he's been blown away by just how good PIF signing has been at Newcastle

Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier has admitted there is one player at the club who has blown him away since signing.

The summer transfer window has now officially opened and Newcastle have already opened their account having brought in Lloyd Kelly.

A number of Eddie Howe‘s players are currently away on international duty with some representing their nations at this summer’s European Championship and Copa America.

Kieran Trippier is one of those players with the England international selected for Gareth Southgate’s squad to play in Germany.

The Newcastle right-back has recently come under criticism from England legend Wayne Rooney who has questioned Trippier’s inclusion in the squad.

However, speaking about his own teammates, Trippier has admitted there is one player at St James’ Park who he’s been wowed by since arriving.

Good recruitment has been crucial for Newcastle’s recent success with the Toon having played Champions League football last season.

Injuries did not help the side over the course of the term as Howe’s side finished outside of the European spots following Manchester United’s FA Cup victory.

But the shrewd business has certainly worked for Newcastle who – despite their financial backing – are having to tread carefully with the strict FFP regulations.

Of course, PIF have still been able to bring in some quality additions and one, in particular, has really impressed Trippier.

Speaking on The Overlap, Trippier admitted that Bruno Guimaraes has left him stunned by just how good he has been.

“We signed good characters. As you [Gary Neville] mentioned, Dan Burn: great leader, he’d run through a brick wall in the situation we were in,” Trippier said.

“Matt Targett, myself and Bruno who has been remarkable. So I think at the time it was about bringing in the right character for the squad.”

It is crucial Newcastle keep Bruno Guimaraes this summer

There has been speculation surrounding the future of Guimaraes with the likes of Manchester City being linked with a potential move.

Newcastle are one of the sides who need to sell this month to avoid any breaches of the PSR rules, but it now seems as if a player of Bruno’s value will not need to be offloaded.

Having no form of European football will be a frustration for a player like Bruno, but Newcastle’s 2023/24 campaign was significantly hindered by injuries and they will be looking to get back on track next time around.

But it will be key to their European push next term that players of Bruno’s quality are kept.
