Report: How Manchester City now feel about activating Bruno Guimaraes' release clause

Newcastle United are getting closer and closer to seeing the back of Bruno Guimaraes’ release clause.

Clubs currently have the opportunity to sign the Newcastle United talisman for £100million, but the clock is ticking to do a deal.

That is because his release clause is only available for a short period of time, with potential suitors needing to a deal by June 24th. Therefore, Newcastle United need to survive just one more week without anyone coming in with a £100million bid.

There has been frustration on Tyneside about the rumours of Bruno Guimaraes departing, but they were inevitable given the public nature of his release clause. The club have never hidden away from it, and Eddie Howe even admitted to the media that interested parties only have a few weeks in which they can activate it.

With Arsenal not interested in paying £100million to sign Bruno, it has looked like it is down to two clubs – Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. However, there have even been reports that PSG are not pursuing a deal.

How Manchester City currently feel about signing Bruno Guimaraes

Man City have been viewed as the biggest threat, but now a new report from ESPN should result in Toon fans feeling a lot more positive about Bruno remaining at St James’ Park.

According to ESPN, Man City are interested in Bruno, but will only make a move for him if one of their midfielders asks to leave the Etihad Stadium.

The report adds that Man City could even start next season without any new signings if none of their current stars seek a move away from Manchester.

The likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Matheus Nunes have been linked with exits, and if any of them were to leave then Pep Guardiola would reportedly consider a move for Bruno.

While that may sound worrying, ESPN add that the Premier League champions do not believe that the 26-year-old is worth £100million.

Great news for Newcastle United

That is positive, as it would suggest that they are not going to activate his release clause. And that should mean that Bruno is staying at Newcastle next season, as Toon officials have no interest in negotiating the Brazil international’s departure.

If anyone wants to buy Bruno then they need activate his £100million release clause, and they need to do it soon. If not, he is going nowhere.

While the end of this release clause will not stop the rumours, it does give the power back to Newcastle. The Magpies will be in a position to say ‘no’, whereas right now they are helpless if someone comes in with a £100million offer.

As it stands, it does not look like anyone will be doing that.
