Burghfield Parish Council has submitted an application to build a new concrete skatepark at Hollybush Lane, Burghfield Common.
The proposal seeks to demolish and replace the existing skatepark installed in the northeast corner of the Old Recreation Ground in 2006 with a free and safer alternative catering to all abilities in the local community.
Specialist designers have prepared designs based on multiple rounds of public consultation — which have now been put forward for review by West Berkshire Council.
Burghfield Parish Council said: “Its positive impact on youth development and community cohesion cannot be overstated.
“The project addresses a pressing need for recreational facilities, and signifies a commitment to sustainable development and the wellbeing of our residents.
“The proposed site for the skatepark is an established recreation ground that has served the community as a free facility for the past 17 years.”
Almost £158,000 out of £250,000 has been raised towards the project, including £50,000 in match funding from Greenham Trust and a £4,000 donation from Englefield Charitable Trust.
The new skatepark will be built from concrete and reinforced steel, with painted mild steel round coping used throughout the park.
Pedestrian access access will continue via an asphalt path from Hollybush Lane.
