Tottenham set to make opening bid for striker Pep Guardiola has called a ‘master’

Tottenham Hotspur are set to make an opening bid for a striker who is keen to make a move this summer.

Top of Tottenham‘s summer wishlist may well be a new striker after their issues up top were only highlighted during the 2024/25 campaign.

Life after Harry Kane was never going to be easy but it was made even more difficult by the injuries sustained by Richarlison over the course of the term.

Heung-min Son played a significant chunk of the season through the middle with Richarlison sidelined, but a permanent solution will be preferred going in next season.

It looks like Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy are now trying to put things right over the summer as they line up their opening bid for one of their striker targets.

Tottenham planning opening bid for Premier League striker

Moving on from a player like Kane, it is always going to be an unenviable task for the likes of Levy in trying to find a replacement.

Perhaps looking inside the Premier League may offer Spurs with a safer option when it comes to narrowing down their options with a selection of players open to a summer move.

One of them being Brentford’s Ivan Toney who has recently seen his own manager discuss his potential departure over the coming months.

And it now seems Spurs are ready to test Brentford’s resolve for their England international.

According to GiveMeSport, Spurs are ready to place their opening bid for the striker upon his return from this summer’s Euros.

Toney is currently in Germany with the England squad where he is awaiting his opportunity behind the former Tottenham striker, Kane.

Claims to have emerged this week of Tottenham already making a move for Toney are said to be wide of the mark with Postecoglou holding back on entering negotiations for the striker currently.

What Pep Guardiola said about Ivan Toney

Having returned to action from his lengthy ban from football, Toney struggled to hit his best form with the England international returning just four goals in the league.

However, fans have been treated to some impressive showings from Toney in recent seasons since Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League.

And that has earned him some big praise from the likes of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

“They have the ability with Ivan Toney – he’s a master player, a really good player,” the City boss told the media earlier this year.

Although he has received some glowing praise over the years, it will be interesting to see how his struggles in 2023/24 may have hindered his opportunities this summer.
