Deal to see Tottenham player with ‘unbelievable pace’ sold in doubt, Premier League rivals now interested

Tottenham Hotspur are now seeing a potential deal to sell one of their players this summer fall flat after a recent development.

No time is being wasted at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer with work well underway to streamlining the Spurs squad.

Ange Postecoglou inherited a lot of players that had uncertain futures at Hotspur Way following years of poor recruitment by the club.

However, Tottenham are now working on cutting down on unwanted players who have recently been sent out on loan as deals have been difficult to come by for their permanent sales.

Players like Tanguy Ndombele are the prime example of this with the Frenchman’s contract having now been terminated after years of loan moves away from north London.

But it now seems one exit which looked likely has now hit the rocks, but there may be some optimism as interest from elsewhere has emerged.

Tottenham exit may now have hit a stumbling block

One of the players who was also sent out on loan last season was defender Joe Rodon who has never really been able to make an impression at Spurs.

Having spent the campaign out on loan with Leeds United, there was a strong belief that Leeds would look to make Rodon’s stay permanent.

However, the loan deal did not included a buy-clause which meant failing to earn promotion would see Leeds struggle to fund a move after an impressive season for the Whites.

Spurs have now triggered the extension in Rodon’s contract which has put them in a strong position when it comes to negotiating an exit for the Welshman this summer.

According to The Athletic, Leeds are now going to find it extremely difficult to land a deal for Rodon this summer with Spurs unlikely to be keen on another loan deal.

It is now believed there are clubs within the Premier League who have an eye on Rodon after he showed what he is capable of after playing regular football with Leeds.

If Spurs are to receive a bidding war from clubs in the Premier League, that would make it incredibly difficult for Leeds to bring the Welshman back to Elland Road.

Daniel Farke would love Joe Rodon back at Leeds

It is apparent Leeds are keen to bring Rodon back to Yorkshire this summer but they are well aware of the difficulties they may ensue over the coming months.

But it is a club where Rodon has enjoyed perhaps the best spell of his career having made 50 appearances for the Whites over the 2023/24 season.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke put a lot of trust in Rodon last term and had a lot of positive things to say about the 26-year-old during the campaign.

“He has unbelievable pace and it is good when we have to defend that high in the field, it helps,” Farke told the media back in August.

“He brings also aerial threat into our game, we have many smaller, not the tallest players, (it’s) also important for us in terms of set-pieces he is strong in duals and build up passes in his technique.
