Alan Shearer suggests Crystal Palace player should replace £51m Liverpool star for England at EURO 2024

England has one game in the books at Euro 2024, but despite winning, it was in no way impressive and now it’s been suggested a Crystal Palace player should start.

England kick-started their Euro 2024 campaign on Sunday and while Jude Bellingham scored to secure all three points, it was not an impressive win.

The game saw just one of the four Crystal Palace players in the squad start, with Marc Guehi lining out alongside John Stones.

But while strong defensively with Bellingham full of praise for Guehi and Stones keeping a clean sheet, on the ball England was very poor after a fast opening 30 minutes.

Now, as the Three Lions gear up to take on Denmark on Thursday, Alan Shearer has suggested that Gareth Southgate drop one £51m valued player – as per CIES – for a player from Selhurst Park.

Alan Shearer suggests England start Crystal Palace player

Shearer has been quoted by DAZN and in doing so suggested that Southgate actually drop Trent Alexander-Arnold and instead start Ebere Eze or Anthony Gordon.

“I wouldn’t call it a big concern, but the more pressing thing is what happened to Trent in midfield, I thought he did alright without being spectacular.

“The two talking points are who plays alongside Rice and who plays on that left side. [Bukayo] Saka on the right in the first half was unplayable, he tied the two left-sided players inside out, in the second half he didn’t really have a kick because they came out and did much better.

“I would play Bellingham alongside Rice and Foden as the 10, which is where he wants to play. I don’t think that would be a problem at all, you’re playing Bellingham with Rice so you free up that left side for someone who can run in behind, whether that would be Eze or Gordon. That’s what I would have done and that’s what I’d do against Denmark.”

It’d certainly be a bold choice if this is how Southgate lined up on Thursday with that being a very attacking midfield which would mean Declan Rice must be on top form.

Ebere Eze would give England an X-factor

Against Serbia, England were lacking a player capable of beating a man and creating something with a moment of magic.

Eze brings this quality to the team and it’s something Paul Merson predicted prior to the tournament as he claimed Eze’s X factor can fire England to glory.

Merson has long been an advocate for Eze to be in the England team, even admitting he’d dump James Maddison for Eze before the tournament.

Eze can be England’s hero this summer if Southgate gives him the chance and Denmark could be the perfect opponent to start him against.
