Report: West Ham could now sign 'promising' striker likened to Jamie Vardy for just £16.8m

West Ham United could now sign a ‘promising’ striker likened to Jamie Vardy for just £16.8m, according to a recent report.

The Hammers have been one of the more active Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window and have already signed Luis Guilherme, a talented Brazilian winger.

Julen Lopetegui has been brought in to take forward David Moyes’ squad and return them to Europe, after missing out last term.

The club look set to invest heavily in him this window and a fresh rumour has just emerged linking a striker to the London Stadium.

West Ham could sign Simon Banza for £16.8m

According to the Portuguese outlet O Jogo, West Ham United are interested in signing Braga striker Simon Banza.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a phenomenal season in Portugal’s top flight last term, netting 23 times whilst laying on five assists, helping his side to a fourth-placed finish.

Banza, who is of a similar profile to Jamie Vardy, has a £33.7m release clause in his contract but remarkably, it’s claimed he could leave for just £16.8m.

Marseille and AS Roma are only keeping tabs on the eight-cap DR Congo international.

West Ham will need to offer a big salary

West Ham will likely need to offer Banza a big salary if they want to land his signature as he also has interest from the Middle East.

In fact, reports suggest he would be willing to reject offers from Europe to depart for Saudi Arabia, so The Hammers may be forced to look elsewhere.

A telling few weeks await the East London club.
