Arsenal could now be forced to take drastic action after what just happened at Euro 2024

Arsenal could now be forced to take drastic transfer action in regards to one player after what just happened at Euro 2024.

Scotland took on Switzerland in what was a must-win match for the Tartan Army, with Steve Clark’s side once again unable to claim all three points at a major tournament as a Xherdan Shaqiri screamer ensured that the game ended 1-1.

With Scotland already looking at an early elimination, injury to Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney was the last thing the home nation wanted, with the left-back jarring into the pitch, resulting in being stretchered off in what could be another long-term injury for the 27-year-old.

And for Arsenal, the moment could lead the Gunners to making a big decision in regards to Tierney’s future.

Arsenal could look into releasing Kieran Tierney if Euros injury is serious enough

With one year remaining on his contract, this summer has been highlighted as the last real opportunity Arsenal have at selling Tierney for some decent money, with an asking price of £10m being reported in recent weeks.

However, if Tierney’s injury turns out to be more sinister than first feared, there’s a 100% chance that Arsenal will be unable to offload the Scottish international this summer, a problem that could also extend into the January window.

As a result, the prospect of releasing Tierney from his Arsenal contract early could become a real possibility, a practice the Gunners haven’t done in some time yet has played a key role in Mikel Arteta’s rebuild of the north London side.

Indeed, interest from boyhood club Celtic could also sway Arsenal’s opinion in releasing Tierney early from his contract, especially with the defender one of the club’s highest earners when compared to other key members in the squad.

Arsenal cutting their losses with Scottish international could be worth it

Offloading Tierney for a fee was always going to be a struggle for Arsenal this summer, with the defender having a mixed spell out on loan with Real Sociedad, now coupled with a disastrous Euros spell with Scotland.

And for Arsenal, cutting their losses with the defender and setting Tierney for release this summer or in January could be worth it, with no team unlikely to pay a transfer fee for the fullback if the injury proves to be serious.

It might be something Arsenal have not done in a while, yet with all signs pointing towards a mutual release being the right decision, the Gunners might have to make the decision with Tierney in the coming weeks.
