Weston McKennie’s most likely destination emerges after Aston Villa collapse amid Tottenham links

Former Aston Villa target Weston McKennie could now end up at a club outside of both Serie A and the Premier League.

Aston Villa are eager to offload Douglas Luiz promptly in order to ease their PSR concerns, with the Brazilian poised to join Juventus.

At first, the deal was proposed to involve both Samuel Iling-Junior and Weston McKennie however, the United States international has now fallen away from the transfer.

Instead, Enzo Barrenechea looks set to arrive at Villa Park to join Unai Emery’s project, leaving McKennie’s future up in the air as his stance in Turin remains uncertain.

Weston McKennie may secure a transfer to Turkey after Aston Villa and Tottenham links

McKennie being part of the deal to offload Luiz broke away this week, as the 25-year-old was unable to agree on financial terms.

It’s believed that not only did the midfielder want to receive a top wage at Villa Park, but also wanted to squeeze additional euros from Juventus as part of his departure.

Now, the United States international finds himself in a difficult situation, as Juventus want to offload him, Villa aren’t pursuing him and neither are Tottenham, as per Fabrizio Romano.

A report relayed by Sport Witness has detailed that the former Leeds United loanee will have to either ‘move to a Premier League club other than Villa’ or alternatively ‘turn his eyes to Turkey’.

For the Villans, there will be a feeling of relief that McKennie will not be part of the deal, with his financial demands and 2022/23 Premier League showing not something the club would desire.

Villa will be thankful for McKennie’s snub

If McKennie does secure a move to the Super Lig this summer, the midfielder will surely feel a sense of ‘what could have been’ had he lowered his financial demands and joined Villa.

The United States international had the chance to join Emery’s thrilling project, redeem himself in the Premier League and of course, feature in the Champions League.

That being said, Villa fans will be grateful that the midfielder’s desire was to benefit financially from the deal, as the American was not wanted by many at Villa Park.

It will certainly be interesting to see what the future holds for McKennie after his Villa snub, with all the focus now on the Villans securing the signatures of Iling-Junior and Barrenechea.
