Tottenham handed Conor Gallagher transfer boost after Fabrizio Romano update

Conor Gallagher is a target for Tottenham yet again this summer, as they look to transform the squad in the transfer window.

Ange Postecoglou is looking to bolster his midfield ranks over the next few months, with uncertainty surrounding several of his options.

Rodrigo Bentancur has been linked with an exit from Spurs, while Oliver Skipp struggled for minutes over the last season.

The late form of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr will be a cause for concern as the Tottenham boss looks to improve on a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League.

With the added challenge of the Europa League, Spurs will need to add quality and depth to the squad in the weeks ahead.

Conor Gallagher ticks both boxes for Tottenham, who have been handed a major boost in securing his signature.

Tottenham handed Conor Gallagher boost with Atletico Madrid stance

With a move for Gallagher on the cards, Tottenham aren’t the only team in the frame for a potential offer this summer.

Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid have also been in the frame for the England international, who is representing his nation at Euro 2024.

Any deal could cost upwards of £50million, which may prove too much for some of those looking at a potential move.

According to Fabrizio Romano, via CaughtOffside, the price tag will put off Atletico Madrid and removes them from the competition.

The transfer expert said: “Despite reports of a bid from Atletico Madrid for Conor Gallagher, I’m not aware of any offer being made.

“Nothing concrete is happening now, firstly because Gallagher won’t entertain any negotiation during the Euros and also because Chelsea want a £50m fee for the player, something almost impossible for Atletico Madrid now.

“So at this point, there’s nothing concrete apart from appreciation for the player.”

It puts Tottenham in a stronger position to land a midfielder that has been on their radar for some time.

Should Tottenham sign Conor Gallagher?

There is a decision to be made over whether Tottenham should shell out £50million to land Gallagher in the weeks ahead.

While it is a large amount to spend, the midfielder adds energy to a style of play that requires it in abundance.

Gallagher has an elite engine that covers plenty of ground, and he can add quality in the final third too.

There’s also the fact that he has a homegrown prospect, which will take some pressure away from Spurs hitting those requirements within their squad.
