A Newark Tennis Club mixed doubles team have won the Hickman Trophy.
The partnership of Sam Smith and Sara Jackson beat off competition from Tony Gammage and Jane Hendley to seal the trophy victory.
An earlier than scheduled start to avoid the rain saw Gammage/Hendley with an early break to take the lead.
Smith/Jackson then picked up the pace to win back to back games and take the first set 6-3.
The second set opened on serve but rain stopped play at 1-1.
Smith/Jackson were able to keep the intensity when play resumed but it continued to go game for game.
Smith/Jackson took the lead before another rain break at 5-4 (15-0) and after a long break, going back into a match that could have gone either way, Smith served up the win.
