Report: Spurs running the rule over six strikers including £30m gem who's 'one of the top 10 players in Europe'

Tottenham Hotspur have a busy summer ahead of them as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his ranks ahead of next season.

Spurs have improved since the 2022/23 campaign, and their future looks bright with Ange Postecoglou at the helm.

However, there is still work to do with regards to improving the overall quality and strength in depth of the Tottenham squad.

Spurs look set to strengthen their ranks in a number of positions in the team, including the front line.

Alasdair Gold has now written an in-depth article on football.london looking at what Tottenham are planning to do in each position.

On the attacking front, he named six strikers that Spurs have been running the rule over, including one who has been deemed “one of the top 10 players in Europe”.

Since Johan Lange’s Tottenham arrival, Spurs have “looked at strikers galore”, according to Gold.

He claimed that Tottenham have been analysing the stats of two Premier League forwards, namely Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke.

As for strikers in other leagues, Spurs hare reportedly been looking at Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez, Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee, RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres.

The six strikers are among ‘a longer list of forwards scouted and the data crunched to see whether they fit Postecoglou’s system’, added Gold.

Who is Tottenham target Santiago Gimenez?

Santiago Gimenez was born in Buenos Aires and began his football journey at Mexico’s Cruz Azul, joining their academy and working his way up the ranks.

Feyenoord decided to sign the forward in 2022 for a reported £4.5million, and he has gone on to become a star for the Eredivisie outfit.

Gimenez has 49 goals and 11 assists from just 86 Feyenoord appearances, and last term he managed 26 goals and eight assists from 41 outings.

Football Talent Scout‘s Jacek Kulig has compared the left-footer to Manchester City and Norway superstar Erling Haaland.

In terms of Gimenez’s style of play, Kulig deemed him a ‘complete forward’ excelling in multiple traits like pace, athleticism, finishing, heading, instinct and movement.

And Morris Pagniello, an agent said to be close to the player’s family, told MedioTiempo last year that he believed the forward is ‘one of the top ten players in Europe’.

In April, a report from Vamos Cruz Azul claimed that Gimenez could potentially have a price tag of just £30million.

This would make him an affordable option for Tottenham or any other suitors and, considering the season he has just had, he’d certainly be worth a shout.
