Report: Club expecting West Ham to submit bid for their 'dangerous' 23-goal striker

According to a recent report, West Ham United have entered the race to sign a prolific striker.

West Ham are undergoing a squad revamp this summer, as Julen Lopetegui looks to make his own imprint following David Moyes’ departure.

The former Real Madrid boss has already added Luis Guilherme to his ranks and is now eager to sign a number nine.

With that said, it has just emerged that The Hammers could soon make a move to sign a 23-goal forward.

West Ham interested in Fotis Ioannidis

According to Corriere di Bologna, West Ham United are interested in signing Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis.

The ‘dangerous’ centre-forward, as labelled by Ben Mattison, has been attracting interest from Serie A outfit Bologna, as well as Celtic and Ipswich Town.

The Tractor Boys have already seen a £21m bid knocked back by the Greek club, who have slapped a £25m asking price on the 24-year-old.

The report further claims that Panathinaikos are remaining patient in their negotiations, hoping for a Premier League club to come in with a sizable offer.

They believe that club maybe West Ham – who have tracked Ionnidis closely for months.

Fotis Ioannidis profile

Standing at 6ft 1in tall, Ioannidis is a physically imposing centre-forward and is both-footed, aiding him in front of goal.

The 2000-born striker netted 23 goals whilst laying on nine assists last term, with five of those strikes coming in just six Europa League appearances.

Given his age, if West Ham do land his signature he’d be able to lead the line for the next decade, so it seems a sensible addition.

Plus, he has Antonio to learn from – who is of a similar profile having polished his skill set as West Ham’s focal point in attack.
