Former Tottenham assistant Chris Davies shares honest thoughts on Ange Postecoglou after leaving

Former Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Chris Davies has shared what he actually thinks on Ange Postecoglou after leaving the club.

Changes were promised by Ange Postecoglou ahead of the summer with expectation being for player turnover during the transfer window.

However, there was a shock and sudden exit from Hotspur Way with Tottenham losing their assistant manager to League One side Birmingham City.

Postecoglou is now going to need to oversee changes alongside Daniel Levy to address his coaching staff now with issues also to be resolved on the back of his first campaign at the club.

His former assistant has now issued his honest thoughts on the 58-year-old manager having now moved on this summer.

What Chris Davies said about Ange Postecoglou

Davies joined Spurs last summer alongside the Australian but has earned himself his first role as a manager after years working as an assistant at various clubs.

Spurs exceeded the expectations of many in their season under Postecoglou with the likes of Davies working in the background.

Alongside his staff, Postecoglou was awarded the Premier League Manager of the Month award for the first three consecutive months of the 2023/24 season.

European football will return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but Davies is not going to be around to see the Europa League action.

Speaking to Birmingham Live after securing himself the role as the manager at St Andrew’s, he has spoken openly about his time under the Spurs boss.

“They [Brendan Rodgers and Postecoglou] are both very clear on what they want from their team,” Davies said.

“When you are a manager there is going to be a lot of different opinions coming at you from all different angles and it’s very easy to lose sight and not quite grasp what you are trying to do, and it’s very hard to please everyone, but what both those guys have done is be crystal clear on what they want their team to look like and what kind of football they want to play.”

Ange Postecoglou has other coaching decisions to make

Along with Davies, Postecoglou has a big decision to make this summer on whether or not to hire a set piece coach.

It was an area of Tottenham’s play last season which caused real issues with goals regularly conceded from dead ball situations.

The Australian did comment on the possibility of hiring a set piece coach, but it was not exactly what Spurs fans may have hoped for.

“I think I’ve answered this question [about set pieces] and I don’t think it satisfies people, but no I don’t see it as an issue,” he told the media back in May.

“It’s something that we work on along with everything in our game. There are far more important things that we need to concentrate on at the moment in terms of the team we’re building.

“I think people want to be believe, and it can be, that football is very prescriptive. You’ve got an illness, here’s the tablet and you feel better. I’ve never believed that.”
