Report: How Yankuba Minteh has reacted to Newcastle United wanting to sell him

Newcastle United fans have never seen Yankuba Minteh kick a ball at St James’ Park for the Magpies, and it looks like they never will.

One year after signing for Newcastle United, it appears that Yankuba Minteh is on his way out.

The 19-year-old seems to be the player who the Magpies are going to sacrifice to solve their PSR problem, having accepted that a move away for a player like Miguel Almiron or Callum Wilson is not going to happen this week.

But a departure for Minteh is on the cards, with plenty of clubs queuing up to sign a teenager who Newcastle believe is worth £40million. Whether they get that much remains to be seen, but there is certainly enough interest to suggest that a deal is on the horizon.

Minteh has been keen to sign for Everton, but that deal is now off. There is also interest in the Gambia international from Lyon, with the Ligue 1 club now his most likely destination.

He has had plenty of suitors, much to his delight.

Yankuba Minteh ‘surprised’ as Newcastle United decide to sell

That is according to the Athletic, who report that Minteh is enthused by the amount of clubs that are trying to sign him from Newcastle United.

The Athletic have also provided details on how the youngster has reacted to the Magpies’ decision to sell him, reporting that he was ‘surprised’ by the fact that the club were willing to let him go.

The decision comes after just one year of being a Newcastle United player – and what a year it was.

Minteh was immediately loaned out to Feyenoord, where he played brilliantly. He made 37 appearances for the Rotterdam club, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists.

Newcastle decision is a testament to Minteh’s ability

It is really disappointing that Minteh is going to leave Newcastle, and it is no surprise to hear that he was shocked by the Magpies’ decision. After all, the club signed him with the view to becoming a Premier League star, yet they are already cashing in when he looks ready for the top flight earlier than anticipated – at a time when Newcastle are trying to sign a new right winger!

But Newcastle’s decision to sell Minteh is actually a testament to his ability. It is only because they are desperate to sell due to PSR, and because their other saleable assets are not attracting any interest.

In contrast, there have been lots of sides eyeing up Minteh, clearly believing he has the potential to develop into a top class forward.

That is potential that Newcastle will believe he has too, but the club is in a position where it simply needs to sell. And you cannot sell if you do not have a buyer.

The Magpies have got exactly that when it comes to Minteh, which is why he is the player that is being sacrificed.
