Aston Villa rival Chelsea with ‘concrete interest’ in £27m forward who’s just like Jarrod Bowen

Aston Villa are reportedly ready to battle Chelsea to acquire one highly-rated transfer target this summer.

Unai Emery welcomed Lewis Dobbin to Aston Villa this week as the former Everton forward became the club’s first signing of the summer.

The Englishman is poised to be joined by Ian Maatsen and Ross Barkley, who are also rumoured to be close to completing a move to Villa Park.

As well as capturing Maatsen, Villa are dealing with Chelsea over the sale of Omari Kellyman however, now, Monchi could go against the Blues in the race for one target.

Aston Villa join Chelsea in the race to sign transfer target Maximilian Beier

On Monday, Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg reported that Villa are interested in TSG Hoffenheim forward Maximilian Beier.

It’s claimed that the Villans join Chelsea in the race to sign the 21-year-old, who has a release clause of €30m (£27m) in place with the Bundesliga side.

Plettenberg credits Villa with having ‘a concrete interest’ in the German international, adding that the Midlands side has ‘gathered information’ about the striker.

The Hoffenheim star is said to be open to discussing his future ‘after the Euros’, as he concentrates on progressing in the tournament with Germany.

Villa’s interest in Beier is unsurprising

The 2023/24 season was a statement for Beier in his senior career, as he introduced himself to the Bundesliga with a bang.

The 21-year-old spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan in the 2.Bundesliga with Hannover, before returning and becoming an integral part of Hoffenheim’s XI.

In 33 Bundesliga appearances, the German international contributed to 19 goals, scoring 16 and assisting three to earn a call-up to Julian Nagelsmann’s Euro squad.

A player who is versatile in his approach to attack, Beier is statistically comparable to Premier League ace Jarrod Bowen, as per FBref, who proved his worth for West Ham last term in the top flight.

In the Bundesliga in 2023/24, the Villa target sported a stellar conversion rate of 20%, just 5% short of English talisman Harry Kane and 2% better than Villa’s own Ollie Watkins, via Sofascore.

Given the promising young forward’s rise to prominence over the campaign, it’s unsurprising to see Emery and Villa linked to a player with such quality at this time.

The mere £27m release clause is something for Monchi to exploit, as the Villans face a battle with Chelsea to acquire the top Bundesliga talent.
