Wolves can make big statement by signing 30-goal ace with 'razor-finishing', he wants to leave - opinion

Gary O’Neil is looking to sign a new centre-forward, and he could make a serious statement by landing one previous target.

Wolves fell away last season after three attacking players all picked up hamstring injuries.

Matheus Cunha, Hwang Hee-chan and Pedro Neto were all having brilliant seasons, but the trio all picked up knocks to leave O’Neil in a tricky spot.

The manager had little strength in depth, having loaned out both Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva.

He was forced to turn to young players, and their inexperience was far from ideal. Wolves lost momentum, and ended up finishing 14th in the Premier League table, and losing an FA Cup quarter-final to Coventry City.

O’Neil wanted a striker in January but couldn’t get one.

The desire is the same this summer – and there is one man Wolves surely must consider.

Previous Wolves target Serhou Guirassy now wants to leave Stuttgart

Previously, it has been suggested that Serhou Guirassy was a player of interest to Wolves.

The Guinea international has just finished the season of his life, scoring 30 goals in 30 appearances in 2023/24 for Stuttgart and helping them into the Champions League.

The star is reported by journalist Florian Plettenberg to want out of Stuttgart now, and several clubs are on his tail.

He said: “Serhou #Guirassy has decided to leave @VfB !!! Guirassy has informed Stuttgart.”

Apparently, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Arsenal are all in the race. According to Fabrizio Romano, Dortmund are currently the frontrunners.

Guirassy has a release clause worth just £15 million, so this potentially makes him affordable for Wolves.

Wolves could make a serious statement by signing Guirassy

So Guirassy is ready for a new adventure, and Wolves have surely got to see about making a move.

It sounds like Dortmund could be in pole position at the moment, so time may be of the essence. But Wolves could make a big statement by landing the 28-year-old.

Guirassy showed last season that he is very efficient in front of goal. As per the Bundesliga‘s official website, he averaged a goal every 79 minutes which was the same as top scorer Harry Kane.

It is stated that Guirassy had an excellent supporting cast last term, and potentially he could thrive at Molineux with speedy and technical players like Cunha and Hwang around him.

Last term, he was said to have fans on cloud nine with his ‘razor-finishing’, and this cutting edge he brings could help Wolves push up the Premier League table.

He is perhaps not a typical signing for Wolves these days, given the club now place a greater focus on signing younger, more unpolished players. But Guirassy seems a steal at £15 million and surely he has to be considered.
