Long-term Crystal Palace target now priced at £50m which Dougie Freedman surely won't pay - Opinion

Crystal Palace could end up having to pay £50m in order to sign one top target who has been on Dougie Freedman’s list for years.

For Oliver Glasner, this summer has gotten off to a decent beginning in terms of incomings. He’s seen Chadi Riad arrive to bolster the defence and is awaiting the arrival of Daichi Kamada.

However, the positivity around these additions is likely to be clouded by Michael Olise’s exit which is a blow for Crystal Palace.

But with additional funds available to strengthen with, it should be an exciting summer. But for one long-term target, his price tag may mean he’s not on the agenda this transfer window.

Arsenal value Eddie Nketiah at £50m

A striker has always been on the agenda for Crystal Palace and in January the club were even pushing hard to secure Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah.

However, with Arsenal looking to get a huge payday for him, it could be time Dougie Freedman hangs up his hat and calls this pursuit a day.

This comes after Alex Crook reported for talkSPORT that Arsenal are demanding £50 million to sell. A figure this high, coupled with Nketiah’s wage demands and the fact he’s not worth anywhere near that fee, means a lot of his suitors will be put off.

Arsenal are clearly playing games and it’s time Palace ended long-term interest in the overpriced talent, especially as he’s no better than what we already have within the club.

Surely this asking price will end Crystal Palace interest

So with an asking price which almost matches the fee that Crystal Palace received for Olise, surely this deal is dead.

Jean-Philippe Mateta will be first choice at least to start the upcoming season which makes spending £50m on a striker who is no better slightly pointless, especially when a quality replacement for Olise is needed.

Perhaps Palace play the long game and let him run his contract down a little bit before making a cheaper move, but all we know is if this deal was done, there’d likely be uproar.

There are several better options in world football right now and we completely trust Freedman to find those options instead of paying £50m for Nketiah.
