Seth Binzer, aka Shifty Shellshock of the band Crazy Town, has tragically died, and one of his final interviews has left fans even more devastated.
If you grew up bumping music in the ’90s and early ’00s, you may have a certain soft spot for Crazy Town. The American rap rock band made some serious waves with their 1999 debut studio album The Gift Of Game, boasting the number one Billboard Hot 100 single Butterfly, which remains one of the most nostalgic songs of its era. With songs like Revolving Door, Toxic, Hurt You So Bad, and more in their arsenal, the group spread its wings far beyond the success of their biggest song and gifted fans with a couple more albums throughout their career. Their co-frontman, Shifty Shellshock, was so integral to their sound, and listening to the music hurts after his passing. As he joins other music stars we’ve had to say goodbye to this year following their deaths.
Crazy Town singer Shifty Shellshock dies at 49
Fans are mortified to discover that Crazy Town’s Seth Binzer, passed away on Monday, June 24th 2024, at 49.
Although the cause of death has yet to be disclosed, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s website addressed that the musician died at his home.
Seth founded Crazy Town with co-frontman Bret Mazur, who has posted a poignant tribute to his beloved friend on Instagram [see in full above].
“Seth struggled with the challenges of maintaining sobriety throughout his life, a battle that he continuously fought privately and publicly,” the celebrity included in his post. “… I wish with all my heart that his story could have ended differently, but we find solace in the hope that Seth has finally found the peace he was searching for so desperately all these years.”
Bret’s words on Seth’s passing make one of his final interviews all the more affecting to watch. Posted on September 15th 2023, Joy Of Everything shared a clip of Seth winning a Joy Of Everything Lifetime Achievement Award “for his contributions to music but more importantly for his continued sobriety and being an all-around nice guy!”
He looks so pleased to receive the honor and recognition. “You’re a sweetheart,” the interviewer tells him. “You look amazing.”

In the wake of his passing, fans are rediscovering the Joy Of Everything moment and feeling such a severe loss.
“RIP SHIFTY,” one fan commented. “My whole teenage memories have these songs burnt into my soul THANK YOU.
Praising him as a “sweet soul”, more continue to pay their respects. “May you have the rest you deserve,” one wrote, with another observing “That meant so much to him just to hear that someone was proud of him! Rest in peace.”
Gutted, a fan admitted their “heart breaks at the horrible news. What an amazing moment this was. RIP Shifty.”
We contacted Krushkill Records, Crazy Town’s music label, for comment. “We are devastated by the news,” they wrote.
