Villa reportedly eyeing free transfer swoop for midfielder who's played alongside Samuel Iling-Junior 35 times

Aston Villa have been particularly busy on the transfer front in recent weeks as they look to bolster their ranks ahead of a busy season.

The Villans have already clinched the signing of Lewis Dobbin from fellow Premier League club Everton, with Tim Iroegbunam going the other way.

Villa are also closing in on the signing of Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen, while the cash-plus-player deal involving Douglas Luiz also seems to be on the right track.

With the Villans set to play in the Champions League next season, Unai Emery will want to strengthen his squad so they can handle the extra workload.

Now, according to TEAMtalk, Villa are looking at a “world-class” player who already has experience with playing with two footballers who should be arriving at B6 soon.

Aston Villa set sights on Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot

The player in question is Adrien Rabiot, whose Juventus contract is coming to an end in the coming days.

TEAMtalk have reported that Emery wants a particular kind of midfielder to join Aston Villa and his two favoured options are Rabiot and Matteo Guendouzi.

And with Guendouzi now likely to stay at Lazio, Villa are reportedly focusing on Rabiot as a key objective instead.

However, the France international has plenty of suitors. Manchester United are said to be pushing the hardest in pursuit of his signature, while Arsenal are also in the picture.

The report claims that Rabiot is unlikely to pen a new Juve deal, as he and his representative want to maximise his earnings from his next contract.

The three-year deal proposed by Juve, which is worth the same salary as his current contract, does not satisfy the player or his mother-agent Veronique, added TEAMtalk.

Who is Aston Villa target target Adrien Rabiot?

Adrien Rabiot is a 29-year-old midfielder with a very impressive CV, having impressed for Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus over the years.

At PSG, he got his hands on six Ligue 1 titles, four French Cups, five French League Cups and four French Super Cups.

Meanwhile, Rabiot lifted one Serie A title, two Italian Cups and one Italian Super Cup while at Juve, and for France, he won the 2021 Nations League trophy.

Juve and France icon David Trezeguet spoke especially highly of the reported Villa target back in 2022.

He told Football Italia, via Juvefc.com: “He is world class, an extraordinary player. Now he will evaluate his options and will go back to being the important player he always was.”

Rabiot has also shared a pitch with Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea, who are reportedly set to join Villa as part of the Luiz to Juve deal.

According to Transfermarkt, he has played alongside Iling-Junior 35 times, and he has featured alongside Barrenechea four times.

Should all three be part of Villa’s squad next season, they will hopefully link up well together.
