Report: West Ham rekindle interest in 'devastating' £30m forward Tottenham are eager to sign

West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be busy throughout the summer transfer window as they look to bolster their respective ranks.

The Hammers finished outside of the European places last season, so they’ll be eager to strengthen and hit the ground running under Julen Lopetegui.

Meanwhile, Spurs are back in Europe, and Ange Postecoglou will be keen on ensuring his side can kick on in the Premier League and shine in the Europa League.

Both West Ham and Tottenham have been linked with attacking reinforcements in recent months, and there’s no doubting that extra firepower is a must for both clubs.

Now, according to a report from CaughtOffside, the Hammers and Spurs are set to battle for a £30million forward who has been described as “devastating”.

West Ham and Tottenham keen on Albert Gudmundsson

The player in question is Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson, who shone in Serie A last season and nearly took Iceland to Euro 2024.

According to CaughtOffside, West Ham and Tottenham are both in the race for the 27-year-old, though they are also up against Inter Milan.

The report claims that the Nerazzurri are currently leading the race for Gudmundsson, who is also on the radar of the Saudi Pro League.

West Ham and Tottenham have both made contact with Genoa to receive information on the conditions of the potential deal, added the report.

Both London clubs have also reportedly indicated that they’d be willing to move for the player, whose valuation is €30-35million (£25-30million).

West Ham were linked with Gudmundsson several months ago, so it looks as though they have rekindled their interest in the Icelander.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have been consistently linked with the 37-cap attacker over the past few months.

Who is West Ham and Tottenham target Albert Gudmundsson?

Gudmundsson began his career in KR Reykjavik’s youth setup, before joining Dutch club Heerenveen in 2013.

He progressed through the ranks in the Netherlands, going on to play for the likes of PSV Eindhoven and AZ, before joining Genoa in 2022 for a reported £1million.

Gudmundsson played a crucial role in their promotion from Serie B in 2022-23, scoring 11 goals and also registering five assists in 36 games.

The reported West Ham and Tottenham target has continued to impress in Serie A, with 14 goals and four goals from 35 outings in the league.

Gudmundsson is a versatile player who has featured in central midfield, No. 10, both flanks, second striker and even up front in his career.

Kevin Strootman told Football Italia last season that Gudmundsson reminded him of Mohamed Salah when he was at Roma, and deemed him “devastating”.

West Ham and Tottenham should step up their efforts to sign the player, as Inter appear to be in front at present.
